The earth and the time are made for your sake; the dwellers and their abodes are made for you
The ‘why’ and ‘how’ (knowledge) is there for you; this world and the next are also for you.
Allah Almighty is free from needing or wanting anything. The beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated in the Hadeeth:
وَکَانَ اللّٰہُ وَلَمْ یَکُنْ مَعَہٗ شَیئٗ وَاحِدٌ کَمَا کَانَ
Allah Almighty was always there without anything attached to Him, He is still One and Only as He was.
Whatever He created was for His beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him. Huzoor Taajush Shariah – may Allah be pleased with has beautiful described this concept as follows:
آپ کی خاطر بنائے دو جہاں
اپنی خاطر جو بنایا آپ ہیں
Allah Almighty created both the worlds for your sake (Y RasoolAllah!)
What He created for His sake was you.
(Al-Haqaaiq fil Hadaaiq)
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas – may Allah be pleased with him – reported that Allah Almighty has stated the following:
لَوْلَاکَ مَا خَلَقْتُ الْجَنَّۃَ وَلَوْلَاکَ مَا خَلَقْتُ النَّارَ
If it were not for your sake, I would not have created the paradise not would I have created the hell.
(Dailami, Ibn Asaakir)
Imam Hakim, Bayhaqi and Tabrani in Sagheer, and Abu Nu’aim and Ibn Asaakir narrated from Sayyiduna Umar ibn al-Khattaab – may Allah be pleased with them – who reported that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated: “When (Sayyiduna) Adam (peace be upon him) erred, he pleaded, “O Lord, I seek Your forgiveness by the medium (Waseelah) of (Sayyyiduna) Muhammad (may Allah send peace and blessings upon him).” Allah Almighty asked, “And how did you know Muhammad?” He replied, “When You created me with Your Hand and blew soul into me from Your soul, I raise my head and I saw لَا إِلَه إِلَّا الله مُحَمَّد رَسُول الله on the ‘Arsh, so I knew that the only one whose name You would join with Yours is the one who is the Most beloved of the creation to You.” Allah Almighty said, “You have spoken the truth, O Adam, and had Muhammad not been there, I would not have created you.”
(Al-Khasaais al-Kubra Li al-Suyooti)
Imam Ahmed Raza – may Allah be pleased with him – has quoted the following Hadeeth in Anwaare Muhammadi p. 24 that Allah Almighty addressed the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him:
O Muhammad, You are from My light, one of My secrets, the chest of My guidance, the treasure of My recognition. I have granted you My kingdom from the ‘Arsh till the very core of the earth. Everyone seeks My pleasure and I seek your pleasure, O Muhammad.
(Tajalli al-Yaqeen Bi anna Nabiyyana Sayyidul Mursaleen)
Imam Zurqani – may Allah be pleased with him – has quoted a narration in his Sharah that Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – has stated:
اِنَّ اللّٰہَ تَعَالٰی قَالَ لِنَبِیِّہٖ، مِنْ اَجَلِکَ اَسْطَحُ الْبَطَحَاءَ وَ اَمُوْجُ الْمَوْجَ وَ اَرْفَعُ السَّمَاءَ وَ اَجْعَلُ الثَّوَابَ وَالْعِقَابَ
Indeed, Allah Almighty said to His Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him, “It is for your sake that I expand the earth, cause the waves to rise, raise the sky and give reward or punishment.”
(Sharah Zurqani)
Imam Qastalani has quoted a Hadeeth that when Sayyiduna Adam – peace be upon him – asked Allah Almighty, “Why did you keep my calling name Abu Muhammad?” He commanded, “Raise your head, O Adam.” When he raised his head, he saw the light of the Prophet Muhammad (May Allah send peace and blessings upon him). He asked, “What is this light?” Allah Almighty replied:
It is the night of My Prophet from your lineage, whose name in the heaven is Ahmed and on earth, Muhammad. Had it not been for his sake, I would not have created you nor would I have created heaven nor the earth.
It has also been mentioned in Mawaahib al-Ladinniyyah that when Sayyiduna Adam – peace be upon him – came out of paradise, he saw the name Muhammad written everywhere; on the pillars of ‘Arsh and elsewhere in paradise. He supplicated to Allah to have mercy upon the father through the virtues of this son. Allah Almighty stated, “O Adam, had you interceded for the entire population of the earth and heavens through his medium, I would have accepted your intercession.”
dahan mein zuban tumhare liye; badan mein jan tumhare liye
hum aye yahan tumhare liye; uthen bhi wahan tumhare liye
The tongue in our mouth is made for you; this soul in our bodies is made for you
We came here, were born for your sake; we rise on that day [hereafter] for your sake.
Imam Abu Nu’aim narrated from Sayyiduna Anas Ibn Malik and Imam Baihaqi from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with them – that the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated:
When I returned from the errands of the heavens (as per Allah’s Command) I said, “O Lord, You have honoured the Prophets that were to come before me; You made Ibrahim Khaleel (friend), Moosa Kaleem (One who had the privilege to have a conversation with You), You made the mountains submit to Dawood, the wind and devils to Sulaimaan and brought the dead alive for ‘Isa, so what is it that You have made for me?” He stated, “Nevertheless, I have granted you more honour than all of that; whenever I am remembered you will be remembered with me.”
(Dalaal al-Nubuwwah of Abu Nuaim)
Hazrat Qatadah – may Allah be please with him – has stated:
Allah Almighty has elevated his remembrance in the world as well as in the hereafter. It is for this reason that there is no Khateeb (lecturer) or the one who recites Shahaadah or Musalli who does not proclaim
(Al-Khasaais Vol. 2, p. 196)
Sayyiduna Salman al-Farsi – may Allah be please with him – reported that Sayyiduna Jibreel – peace be upon him – came and delivered Allah’s following Message to His beloved:
قَرَّبْتُ اِسْمَکَ مَعَ اِسْمِیْ فَلَا اُذْکَرُ فِیْ مَوْضعٍ حَتّٰی تُذْکَرُ مَعِیْ
I have brought your name closer to Mine, so whenever I am remembered in any place you are definitely remembered with Me.

Here are few examples as to how the angels of Allah Almighty serve His beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with him – narrated that once abu jahl addressed the kuffaar of Quraish, “Does Muhammad (may Allah send peace and blessings upon him) pray and prostrate to Allah in front of you?” They replied, “Yes.” He said, “By laat and `uzza. If I were to see him do that, I would trample his neck, or I would smear his face with dust.” He came to Allah’s Messenger – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – as he was engaged in prayer and he thought of trampling his neck (and the people say) that he came near him but turned upon his heels and tried to repulse something with his hands. It was said to him, “What is the matter with you?” He said, “There is a ditch of fire and terror and wings between me and him. Thereupon Allah’s Messenger – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – said, “If he came near me the angels would have torn him to pieces.”
(Muslim Hadeeth No. 2797)
Sayyiduna Ibn `Abbas – may Allah be pleased with him – narrated to me: While on that day of Badr a Muslim was chasing a disbeliever, who was running ahead of him, he heard the swishing of the whip and the voice of the rider saying: Go ahead, Haizum! He glanced at the polytheist who had fallen down on his back. When he looked at him (carefully he found that) there was a scar on his nose and his face was torn as if it had been lashed with a whip and had turned green with its poison. An Ansari came to the Messenger of Allah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – and related this (event) to him. He said, “You have told the truth. This was the help from the third heaven.”
(Muslim Hadeeth No. 1763)

Abu Bakr and Úmar; Uthman and Ali all praise you!
Sayyiduna Moosa – peace be upon him – Kaleem-Allah
Hazrat Allama Faasi – may Allah be pleased with him – has quoted the following verses from Torah where Allah Almighty had commanded Sayyiduna Moosa – peace be upon him:
O Moosa, praise Me as I honoured you by speaking to you and provided you the opportunity to bring Imaan in Ahmad, and had you not believed in Ahmad, you would not have gained nearness to Me in My house, nor would you get to relax in My paradise. O Moosa, whoever fromm amongst the Prophets does not believe in Ahmad and testify and does not desire him, his virtues will be null and void and I would deprive him of wisdom and will not enter the light of guidance in his heart and will erase his name from the register of the Prophets. O Moosa, whoever believes in Ahmad and testifies will reach their objectives, and whoever from amongst my creation rejects Ahmad and falsifies him, they are the losers and regretful and they are the ones with no insight.
(Mataali’ al Musirraat the commentary of Dalaail al-Khairaat)
Hazrat Abu Nu’aim narrated from Sayyiduna Anas – may Allah be pleased with him – who reported that the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated:
اَوْحَی اللّٰہُ اِلٰی بَنِیْ اِسْرَائِیْلَ اَنَّہٗ مَنْ لَمْ یَقْن بِاَحْمَدَ اَدْخَلْتُہُ النَّارَ
Allah Almighty send Wahy towards Bani Israel (through Sayyiduna Moosa – peace be upon him – to inform them) that whoever does not believe in Ahmad, I shall enter him in hell.
He asked, “Who is Ahmad?” He replied, “I have not created anyone more honourable than him in My Court. I wrote his name with Mine prior to creating the earth and the heavens and until he and his nation enter the paradise, I have forbidden entry into paradise for my creation.” He asked, “Who are his nation?” He replied, “They are the nation who praise Me excessively” and Allah Almighty mentioned other qualities as well. He said, “O Allah, make me the Prophet of that nation.” Allah Almighty stated, “Their Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – will be from amongst them.” He said, “Make me from amongst his nation.” Allah Almighty responded, “You have preceded him and he will arrive towards the end but do not grieve, I shall unite you will him in the house of eternity (paradise).”
Sayyiduna Nooh – peace be upon him – Naji-Allah
It has been mentioned in the books of Tafseer that the flood of Sayyiduna Nooh – peace be upon him – lasted for 40 days which drowned everything in its way except those who boarded the ark of Sayyiduna Nooh – peace be upon him – were saved. People aboard were very anxious and began to lose hope as the storm became severe and wind speed increased which raised the waves higher, and then Allah Almighty commanded to read the Du’a through which Allah Almighty solve their problems:
وَقَالَ ارْکَبُوۡا فِیۡہَا بِسْمِ اللہِ مَجْرٖؔؔىھَا وَمُرْسٰىہَا ؕ اِنَّ رَبِّیْ لَغَفُوۡرٌ رَّحِیۡمٌ ﴿۴۱﴾
In the name of Allah is its moving and its berthing.
(Hood 11, Verse 41)
Allah Almighty saved them from drowning through His Name’s blessings.
It is mentioned in Ma’aarij al-Nubuwwah that the means for their salvation was the name of the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him, which is also supported by the verses of the Qasidah of Sayyiduna Abbas – may Allah be please with him.
Sayyiduna Maseeh ‘Isa – peace be upon him – Rooh-Allah
He will obviously arrive as the follower of the beloved Prophet – may Alalh send peace and blessings upon him. Allah Almighty made him aware of the honour of the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – even during his term of Prophethood; for example, Imam Hakim narrated from Sayyiduna ibn Abbas – may Allah be pleased with them – that:
اَوْحَی اللّٰہُ تَعَالٰی اِنْ اٰمَنَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ وَ اَمَرَ مَنْ اَدْرَکَ مِنْ اُمَّتِکَ اَنْ یُّؤْمِنُوا بِہٖ فَلَوْلَا مُحَمَّدٌ مَا خَلَقْتُ آدَمَ وَلَا الْجَنَّۃَ وَلَا النَّارَ
Allah Almighty sent Wahy (upon Sayyiduna ‘Isa – peace be upon him) to believe in Muhammad (may Allah send peace and blessings upon him) and to command whomever of your nation you approach to believe in him, for if Muhammad (may Allah send peace and blessings upon him) did not exist, I would have neither created paradise nor hell.
Sayyiduna Adam – peace be upon him – Safi-Allah
Allamah Yusuf Nabhani – may Allah be pleased with him – has written the following:
اَنَّ آدَمَ وَ جَمِیْعَ الْمَخْلُوْقَاتِ خُلِقُوْا لِاَجَلِہٖ
Indeed, Sayyiduna Adam and the entire creation was created for his sake.
(Jawaahir al-Bihaar Vol. 2, p. 10)
There are various narrations of Sayyiduna Adam – peace be upon him – which have been mentioned previously.
Sayyiduna Ibrahim – peace be upon him – Khaleel-Allah
Sayyiduna Ibrahim – peace be upon him – made Du’as for the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – in the following verse of the Holy Quran:
رَبَّنَا وَابْعَثْ فِیۡہِمْ رَسُوۡلًا مِّنْہُمْ یَتْلُوۡا عَلَیۡہِمْ اٰیٰتِکَ وَیُعَلِّمُہُمُ الْکِتٰبَ وَالْحِکْمَۃَ وَیُزَکِّیۡہِمْؕ اِنَّکَ اَنۡتَ الۡعَزِیۡزُ الۡحَکِیۡمُ﴿۱۲۹﴾٪
‘O Our Lord, and send in them a messenger from among themselves, who may recite to them Your signs and teach them Your Book and wise knowledge and may purify them well. Surely, You are alone the Predominant, the Wise.
(Al-Baqarah 2, Verse 129)
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddeeq – may Allah be pleased with him – the First Khalifah:
At the time of the battle of Tabook, when the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – told the Sahaba to prepare for Jihaad, they were going through tough time and also there was drought. They were so desperate that two people would share from one date. The journey was lengthy, and the enemies were strong and in large number. Hazrat Uthmaan – may Allah be pleased with him – spent with broad heart and donated equipments to 10,000 Mujaahideen and he also donated 10,000 gold coins for the battle.
Hazrat Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – was the first among them to donate all his assets. The narrator is Hazrat ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him. He said that it was a good co-incidence that he had some wealth that day and I thought that today I will surpass Abu Bakr in sacrificing my assets. Hence, Hazrat Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – divided his belongings into two portions; and leaving one portion at home he donated the other half, and was very happy thinking, he has sacrificed so much today that Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – will not be able to compete with him. When he saw Hazrat Abu Bakr donating all what he had in the court of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – he was astonished at what he just saw, and realized that it’s impossible to compete with him. The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – was very happy with the sacrifice Hazrat Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – had made, and said to him, “O Abu Bakr! If you brought everything you had at home then what have you left for them at home?”
He replied, “Allah and His Rasool.”
After a short while, Hazrat Jibreel – peace be upon him – descended and said, “O Allah’s Messenger, Allah Almighty has sent Salaam for Siddeeq and He has stated, O Allah’s Messenger, for you to ask him, whether he is pleased with Allah in this state of poverty or not?”
When the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – narrated the message to Hazrat Siddeeq Akbar – may Allah be pleased with him – he went into the state of ecstasy by the divinity of the message, and said:
اَسْخَطُ عَنْ رَبِّیْ
اَنَا عَنْ رَبِّیْ رَاضٍ
اَنَا عَنْ رَبِّیْ رَاضٍ
اَنَا عَنْ رَبِّیْ رَاضٍ
Will I be displeased with my Lord?
I am pleased with my Lord
I am pleased with my Lord
I am pleased with my Lord
(Kanzul Imaan p. 275, Tareekh Al-Khulafa p. 31)
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr’s Love for the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him
It is mentioned that in the beginning of Islam, the Muslims used to keep their faith private and secret. However, when the number of Muslim reached thirty nine, at the insistent of Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – announced to the Muslims that they could publicly display their faith.
One day, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – took all the Muslims to the Haram Shareef and Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – began to deliver the Khutbah. When the disbelievers saw this, they attacked the blessed companion and he was beaten so badly that his face could not be recognised. They continued to hit Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – until he fell unconscious. When members of his clan heard about this, they rushed towards the Haram Shareef and carried his body to his house. He remained unconscious the entire day. When he regained a little conscious, the first thing he asked was about the state and condition of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.
Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – also made it clear that he will not eat or drink anything until he does not meet the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. When it was dark, his blessed mother took him to Daar Arqam and when he saw the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – they both embraced each other warmly. The eminent companion was weeping and also requested the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – to convey the message of Islam to his mother. The blessed lady immediately accepted Islam.
The same time, Hadrat Sayyiduna Ameer Hamza – may Allah be pleased with him – accepted Islam and three days later, Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – also accepted Islam.
(Al Bidaayah, Hayaat As Sahaabah)
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr buried next to the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him
Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that, “When the time came for Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – to pass away, he then mentioned to me, ‘O Ali, when I pass away, you must give me Ghusal with the same blessed hands with which you gave Ghusal to the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. You must then place fragrance on me and take me to the same room in which the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – is buried. You should then seek permission for me to be buried there as well. If you see the door opening, then you should bury me there. Otherwise, you must bury me in the graveyard of the Muslims which is the Jannatul Baqi until Allah Almighty calls people to account.’ (In other words, until the appearance of the Day of Judgement).
Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – continues, “I then performed the Ghusal and covered him with the kafan. I was the first person to stand at the door of the beloved Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and seek permission. I asked in the following way, ‘O Prophet of Allah! This is Abu Bakr Siddique who seeks permission to be buried.’
Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – then narrates further, ‘I then saw the door open on its own and also heard the words, ‘Allow the Habeeb to be with the Habeeb because the Habeeb is ardently anxious to meet the Habeeb.’
(Taarikh Madina wa Dimishq by Ibn Asaakir. Lisaanul Mizaan by Imam ibn Hajr Asqalani. Al Khasaa’is Al Kubra by Imam Suyutwi. Jaami’ul Ahadith by Imam Suyutwi. Kanzul Ummaal by Imam Ali Mutaqqi. Hadraatul Quddus by Imam Badrudeen Sirhindi etc.)
Hadrat Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah Ansari – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates, “We took the blessed body of Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – and then knocked on the door seeking permission and also (mentioned who was present), and suddenly the door opened on its own. We had no idea who had opened the door when there was no one inside the room. However, the words of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – were clearly heard where he mentioned that we should enter and also bury (the eminent Sahabi).” (Nafhaatul Uns by Imam Jaami)
Sayyidah Ayesha – may Allah be pleased with her – narrates, “When Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – passed away, there were certain companions who mentioned that he should be buried among the Martyrs, (in other words, in the blessed graveyard of Jannatul Baqi). I had also mentioned that he should be buried in the same room as the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. In other words, there was confusion in this regard. However, in my dream, I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Allow the friend to join with the friend.’ When I awoke, I realised that everyone present had also heard this voice. Even the people in the Masjid heard these words.’” (Shawaahidun Nubuwah by Imam Jami; Hadraatul Qudus by Imam Badrudeen Sirhindi)
It is recorded that when the time came for the passing of Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – then he called the blessed Ashaab and informed them, “When I pass away and you have completed my Ghusal and other actions, then you must present me in front of the door of that room in which the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – is resting. You must then stop and say the words, ‘As Salaamo Alaika Ya Rasoolallah. This is Abu Bakr Siddique who seeks permission to enter.’ If you receive permission and the door which is closed is opened, then you should take me inside and bury me there. If you do not receive permission then you should take me to Jannatul Baqi and bury me there.”
The blessed Ashaab did exactly this. When they presented themselves in front of the door, the lock fell to the ground on its own and the door opened on its own and from the blessed room a voice was heard which declared, “Allow the Habeeb to enter with the Habeeb because the Habeeb is ardently anxious to meet the Habeeb.” (Shawaahidun Nubuwah by Imam Jaami)
Among the miracles of Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – is that when his Janazah was carried and placed in front of the door (of the room in which the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – lies buried), and it was mentioned, “As Salaamo Alaika Ya Rasoolullah. This is Abu Bakr who seeks permission (to enter and be buried)”. The closed door opened on its own and from the blessed grave of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – a voice was heard declaring, “Allow the Habeeb to join the Habeeb”. (Tafseer Kabeer by Imam Razi; Tafseer Nishapuri by Imam Ahmed bin Mohammed Nishapuri)
Sayyiduna Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – the second righteous Khalifah
One cold night Ameerul Mo’mineen, Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – saw a light at a distance. The light appeared as if someone was burning a fire. He went to investigate and he was also accompanied by another blessed companion, namely Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Auf – may Allah be pleased with him.
When Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – reached the place where he saw the fire, he noticed a woman sitting near the fire and around her, she was surrounded by three little girls. The first child was telling her, “O beloved, please have kindness on our tears and give us something to eat.” The second child was saying, “O beloved mother! It seems that we will finally die from this hunger.” The third child was saying, “O beloved mother! Will we not be able to eat something before death approaches us?”
The great Muslim then approached this female and asked her, “O slave of Allah! Who is responsible for this state of yours?”
The female replied, “By Allah! The person who is responsible for this state of ours is none other than Ameerul Mo’mineen, Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him.” (Obviously, she had no idea who she was talking to).
Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – then asked, “Has anyone informed ‘Umar of your condition?”
She replied, “He is our leader but is unaware of our state. How can he be a true leader when he has no idea about the state and condition of his subjects?”
When Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – heard this, he immediately returned to the Baitul Maal and opened the doors. The person who was on guard asked him whether everything was well. Without saying anything further, Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – grabbed a large container of ghee, honey and flour and tried to place it on his back. However, his servant said that he should place these goods on his back. But Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – did not agree to this and insisted that these good be placed on his back.
The servant replied that he could stand on one side while such a large burden was placed on the back of Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him. When Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – heard this, he asked the person, “May your mother be aware of you. Please place these goods on my back. Will you be able to carry the burden of my sins around your neck on the Day of Judgement?”
Saying this, Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – then carried all of these goods by himself. When he reached thelady, he personally gave the food for these people and then after adding ghee and honey, he made sure that everyone consumed as much as they could. All the time, Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – was sitting on one side looking at this family.
After their hunger had been satisfied, the lady turned to the great Muslim leader and declared, “I swear by Allah ALmighty that you are much more entitled for the position of Khilaafah than ‘Umar himself.”
When Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – heard this, he informed her that she should come to Madina Shareef tomorrow and meet ‘Umar herself. He also mentioned that ‘Umar will be there and he would present her case in front of him.
After saying this, he then found a little mount to sit on so that he could further see the children. However, Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Auf – may Allah be pleased with him – mentioned to him that the night was becoming cold and that they should return as quickly as possible.
However, Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – replied, “I swear by Allah Almighty that I will not move from this place until I do not see these children laughing as I saw them crying when I arrived.”
The next day, after sunrise, this same female arrived in Madina Shareef. She noticed that there were two people sitting around the same person who had brought her food the previous night. The two people around him were Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – and Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mas’ud – may Allah be pleased with him. They were also addressing this person as “Ameerul Mo’mineen”. She also remembered her words where she had mentioned that the reason for their state was because of ‘Umar. Obviously, she was extremely embarrassed for saying these words. In fact, as she drew nearer, it was like the ground had disappeared from under her feet.
The great Muslim leader could see that this female was extremely uncomfortable and embarrassed and he said to her, “There is no need to concern yourself, you would not have known who I was. Tell me, how much will you sell your complaint for?”
However, she continued to tender her apology. However, Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – insisted, “I swear by Allah! You cannot move from this spot until you do not sell to me your complaint.”
Finally, the great Muslim purchased this complaint for six hundred Dirhams which he handed to her from his own personal money. He then instructed Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – to bring some piece of item to write and some ink. After these items were brought forward, he asked him to write the following, “I, Ali and ibn Mas’ud hereby bear witness that a certain female has sold her complaint to Ameerul Mo’mineen, Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him”.
The great Muslim leader than took this recorded message and ordered them that when he passes away, this should be placed in his kafan. He wanted to meet Allah Almighty having this in his possession. (Al Bidaayah wan Nihaayah, Ibn Katheer)
Abdur Rahman bin Auf – may Allah be pleased with him.
He is one of the blessed companions that is included among the “Ash’arah Mubashirah” or the blessed ten that were given glad tidings of Jannah while they were in this world. He was also among those six blessed companions who were chosen by Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – to nominate the next leader of the Muslims. He was born ten years after the Year of the Elephant.
Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Auf – may Allah be pleased with him – was also among those who accepted Islam prior to the establishment of the Daar Arqaam. He took part in two migrations. He took part in the Battle of Badr and in all the other battles of Islam. After the battle of Daumatul Jandal, Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Auf – may Allah be pleased with him – married the daughter of that region, namely Asba’a bin Thalabah. He was also responsible for the conquering of this area and during one journey of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –he was nominated as the person to perform the Fajr Salaah.
Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Auf – may Allah be pleased with him – passed away at the age of 72 in the 31st year of migration. He was buried in Jannatul Baqi and his Janaza Salaah was performed by Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Uthman Ghani – may Allah be pleased with him –.
This incident also proves the immense concern a true leader of Islam has about his subjects. In other words, the blessed Ashaab were not name-sake Muslims. They were Muslims who were Muslims in the true sense of the word. In today’s time, if we have to tell any so-called Muslim leader to carry a can of baked beans and give it to another poor Muslim, he would look at us like we are mad. Again, there is no cure for being a “wannabi Muslim leader”.
Hadrat ‘Umar beheads a Munafiq
Thalabi reports from Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas – May Allah be pleased with them – who explains the reason for the Revelation of the verse in Surah Nisaa, (verse 60):
“Did you not see those whose claim is that they believe in what has been sent down on you and what was sent down before you, and they then wish to make the devil their judge, whereas they were ordered to completely reject him? And the devil wishes to mislead them far astray.”
That there was once a Jew and a Munafiq named Bashar and there was a dispute among them. The Jew mentioned that they should take this dispute to the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. However, the Munafiq (Bashar) replied that instead of doing this, they should take their dispute to Ka’ab bin Ashraf (in case the Jew did not agree with the decision of the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him).
However, finally they took their dispute to the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. After listening to the dispute, the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –gave the decision in favour of the Jew.
Obviously, Bashar was not happy with this and mentioned that they should take this dispute to Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – May Allah be pleased with him. When this was presented in front of Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – May Allah be pleased with him, the Jew also mentioned that the decision was already made in his favour by the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –initially. Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – May Allah be pleased with him – then asked the Munafiq whether this was true what the Jew had mentioned. He replied that yes, the Jew was correct in what he was saying.
Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – May Allah be pleased with him – then told both of them to wait for him. A few minutes later, he walked into the room with a sword. As he entered the room, without saying a word, he beheaded the Munafiq. He mentioned that whoever is not happy with the decision of Allah Almighty and His Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, this decision was the correct decision for them. (Durre Mansur)
Sayyiduna Uthman – may Allah be pleased with him – the third righteous Khalifah
Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas – may Allah be pleased with them – narrates:
Once there was a severe drought in Madina Shareef and there was terrible hunger and poverty. At that moment also, a caravan belonging to Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Uthman Ghani – may Allah be pleased with him – was also returning from Syria and it was loaded with grain. When this caravan arrived in Madina Shareef, the merchants then approached Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Uthman Ghani – may Allah be pleased with him – so that they could purchase this grain. He then asked them what profit they were willing to give him. They replied that for every ten Dirhams he had spent, they would give him two Dirhams as profit. However, Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Uthman Ghani – may Allah be pleased with him –mentioned that he wanted more than this.
They then told that for every ten Dirhams he had spent, they would give him four Dirhams as profit. Still, Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Uthman Ghani – may Allah be pleased with him – insisted that they give him more than this. They said that they were the sole traders in Madina Shareef and certainly no one else would give him more than this. The blessed companion then mentioned, “Allah Almighty will give me ten Dirhams in return for every single Dirham I have spent. Therefore, bear witness that I have distributed this among the poor of Madina Shareef.”
Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas – may Allah be pleased with them – then continues, “I then saw the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – in a dream and mentioned that I was waiting to see him. He told me, ‘O ibn Abbas! The charity which has been given by ‘Uthman has indeed been accepted in the Divine Court of Allah. He had also been married to a Jannati maiden and I also one of the guests.’ It is also mentioned that the Holy Prophet – peace be upon him – was seen riding a horse with wings and his shawl was one of complete Nur.
Punishment for a Tormentor of Hadrat ‘Uthman
Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Qulaabah – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:
I once arrived in Syria with some of my companions. While we were in one of the areas of Syria we heard someone screaming, “I am destroyed, the Fire, the Fire.”
I then approached this person and noticed that both his hands and feet were cut off, he was blind and his mouth was also dragging on the ground. I was shocked and asked him what had happened to him. He replied, “I am that unfortunate person who had become involved in the fitnah against Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Uthman Ghani – may Allah be pleased with him. I was also among those tyrants who forcefully entered the blessed house of Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Uthman Ghani – may Allah be pleased with him. When we approached Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Uthman Ghani – may Allah be pleased with him, his wife began to scream and shout and I decided to slap her. When I did this, she cursed me and said, ‘Allah will remove your hands and feet, He will take away your vision and you will be thrown into the Fire.’ When I heard this curse, I ran from that house but could not run from what was destined to happen to me. Now you can see my state, my hands and feet have been cut, I am also blind and very soon, I will be thrown into the Fire.’
When I heard his story, I said to him, “There is no doubt that you are someone who is completely entitled for what you have experienced and there is no doubt that the Fire of Hell is certainly waiting for you.”
This is when the mutineers had surrounded the blessed house of Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Uthman Ghani – may Allah be pleased with him – and finally had him martyred. It is mentioned that they had also made sure that no food or water reaches him.
However, all tyrants must remember that tyranny is something which always has a repayment. This is the nature of tyranny. Even though at this moment in time a person might think that he is extremely powerful and influential, he will never be able to escape from what will be coming for him. The Qur’an and the Hadith Shareef clearly proves to us that in the end, the oppressor is never successful. Not only does he go through immense punishment in this world in the end, but the terrible punishment of the Hereafter still awaits him.
Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – the fourth righteous Khalifah
Hadeeth:
The beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated:
عَلِیٌّ مِنِّیْ وَاَنَا مِنْہُ، وَ ھُوَ وَلِیُّ کُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ
Ali is from me and I am from him, and he is the master of every believer.
(Mishkaat p. 264)
In another Hadeeth, he has stated:
مَنْ کُنْتُ مَوْلَاہُ فَعَلِیٌّ مَوْلَاہُ
To whom I am the master, Ali is his master as well.
(Mishkaat p. 565)
Everyone is aware that there were five people in the blessed house of Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him. They were himself, his blessed wife, Imam Hasan and Imam Husain and Haarith – may Allah be pleased with him.
Once, they had not eaten for three days and because they were so poor Sayyidah Fatimah – may Allah be pleased with her – gave Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – a shawl of hers and told him to sell this so that he could purchase some food. He took this shawl and sold it for six Dirhams. Instead of buying anything for the house, he distributed this among the poor and needy.
At that moment, Hadrat Jibra’eel Ameen appeared in the form of a human and he had a camel with him. He asked Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him, “O Abal Hasan! Will you like to purchase this camel from me?”
Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – asked him how much the camel was and he replied that it was a hundred Dirhams.
Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – agreed and took the camel from him. As he walked further, Hadrat Mika’eel appeared in front of him in the form of a Bedouin and asked him, “O Abal Hasan! Will you like to sell this came?”
Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – replied that yes, he will like to sell this camel. Hadrat Mika’eel then asked him how much he had purchased the camel for, he replied that he purchased it for a hundred Dirhams. Hadrat Mika’eel then informed him that he will offer him one hundred and sixty Dirhams.
As he walked further, again Hadrat Jibra’eel Ameen appeared and asked him whether he sold the camel and he replied that he had sold it for one hundred and sixty Dirhams. Hadrat Jibra’eel Ameen then asked him for his hundred Dirhams.
After this, Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – returned home with sixty Dirhams. He then placed this in front of his blessed wife and she asked him where he had received this money from. He replied that he had entered into an agreement for six Dirhams with Allah Almighty and in return, he had received sixty Dirhams. In other words, for every single Dirham spent in the Path of Allah, he had received ten Dirhams in return.
He then approached the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and mentioned what had happened. The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – replied, “O Ali! The person who offered you the camel was Hadrat Jibra’eel Ameen and the person who purchased the animal from you was Hadrat Mika’eel. That will also be the same camel on which Fatimah will ride on the Day of Judgement.”
After this, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – said to him, “O Ali! There are three things in you which Allah Almighty has not given to anyone else. The first is your wife who is the leader of the females in Jannah. The second are your two sons who are the leaders of the young people in Jannah and the third is your father-in-law who is the leader of all the Prophets. Therefore, you should give thanks to Allah Almighty for this Immense Divine Grace.” (Nawaadir Al Qalyubi)
Hadrat Ali’s Advice on Knowledge
Hadrat Sayyiduna Kameel bin Ziyad – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that, “Once, Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – held my hand and took me outside. After making me sit on one side, he took a deep breath of regret and then said, ‘O Kameel! The heart is like a container. The best those who readily accept good advice. Therefore, whatever advice I give you, remember it well.’
He then mentioned, ‘O Kameel! People are of three types. The first is an Aalim-e-Rabbani, the second is one who searches for religion, and the third type are those who can be considered as idiots and who listen to all and sundry. They bend in front of every breeze. They are never brightened with the Nur of knowledge and neither have they made something which is strong as their support.
‘O Kameel! Remember that knowledge is far superior to wealth. Bear in mind that knowledge is something which protects you while you have to protect and safeguard wealth. Wealth becomes less through spending while knowledge increases through spending. Knowledge is the true leader while wealth is merely an ordinary subject.
‘O Kameel! Love for an Alim is actually religion. Due to this, immense reward will be given to you. Knowledge is something which encourages a person to do good in this world and after he passes away, it is the best of possessions. As for wealth, this also dies with a person.
‘O Kameel bin Ziyad! Many who are rich are actually dead in spite of their wealth. As for the ‘Ulama, even though they have left this world, but they remain alive as long as time exists. Even though their eyes are closed, yet their greatness and stature is still alive until the present day.’
‘Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – then pointed to his blessed chest and declared, ‘It is a pity that much knowledge is found in this place and if only I could find someone to whom I could give this to. Someone who is fit and able to whom I can give everything to. Yes, I have met a few but I was not pleased with them. They wish to use religion to acquire the world. Through this Divine Gift (which is knowledge) they hope to show off among people and through their knowledge they hope to change the actual Divine Decree of Allah Almighty. There are some people whom I have met and who are obedient to the people of truth, but they lack inner vision and wisdom. Merely a little doubt shakes their heart. With the result, they are neither here nor there. They follow their carnal desires and are busy gathering material wealth. They have no interest in spreading religion. They are like domestic animals and because of this, when the real ‘Ulama pass away, actual knowledge will also be taken away.
‘However, there are still such people who continue to remain in the world who hold fast to the Divine Limits of Allah Almighty. They do so, so that the Divine Signs of Allah Almighty remain visible for all to see. Some of them become famous and others remain hidden. However, the latter are very few indeed. Such people have a mighty status with Allah Almighty and through them, the Divine Signs of Allah Almighty continue to remain protected. These people then pass this on to those who are like them. This is firmly established in their hearts. The various parts in the world become easy for them to travel which makes the ignorant fear. These rightly-guided ‘Ulama do not fear anything. They live among the common people but their hearts are with their Divine Creator. O Kameel! These are the true Khalifah of Allah Almighty on earth and the people who truly spread the religion. I only wish to meet such people.’”

Asaalate Kul Imaamate Kul, Sayaadate Kul Imaarate Kul
Hukoomate Kul Wilaayate Kul, Khuda Ke Yahan Tumhaare Liye
The origin of all, the leadership of all, the mastery of all, the command of all,
The rule of all, the governance of all – with Allah, all are for you.
The Imaamat of all
Whether it is Imaamat al-Kurba or Sughra, in reality, only he is worthy of it all. It is for this reason that no one’s Imaamat was permissible during his physical life. It is for this reason that when a Sahabiya passed away he reperformed her Janazah Salah because in his absence, someone else had already performed her Salah and then he performed it again. It was to establish his Imaamat that he led the congregation of Ambiya in the night of Me’raj at Masjid al-Aqsa.
The Leadership of all
It has been mentioned in the Hadeeth of the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – that he has stated:
اَنَا سَیِّدُ النَّاسِ یَوْمَ الْقِیَامَۃِ وَھَلْ تدْرُونَ مِمَّا ذٰلِکَ یَجْمَعُ اللّٰہُ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ وَالْآخِرِیْنَ فِیْ صَعِیْدٍ وَّاحِدٍ
I will be the leader of mankind on the Day of Judgment. Do you know the reason for this? It is because Allah Almighty will gather all the creation from the first generations to the last on a plain. (The Hadeeth continues…)
There is a similar narration in Muslim shareef and numerous other Ahadeeth of his excellence.
tumhari chamak; tumhari damak; tumhari jhalak tumhari mahak
zamin o falak; simak o samak mein sikka nishan tumhare liye
It is your light; and your radiance; it is your sparkle and your perfume
in the earth and in the heavens; in the stars and the skies.
[simak is constellation; samak is the roof or the sky]
Sayyidah Ayesha – may Allah be pleased with her – has stated the beauty of Sayyiduna RasoolAllah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – in the following words:
لَنَا شَمْسٌ وَ لِلآفَاقِ شَمْسٌ
وَشَمْسِیْ فَوْقَ مِنْ شَمْسِ السَّمَائِ
وَشَمْسُ السَّمَاءِ تَطْلَعُ بَعْدَ فَجْرٍ
وَشَمْسِیْ تَطْلَعُ بَعْدَ الْعِشَائِ
We have a sun and so does the sky
Our sun outshines the sun of the sky
The sun of the sky rises after dawn
But my sun rises after Esha
Sayyiduna Jabir and Anas – may Allah be pleased with them – have stated:
کَانَ رَسُوْلُ اللّٰہِ ﷺ اِذَا مَرَّ فِیْ طَرِیْقٍ مِنْ طَرِیْقِ الْمَدِیْںَۃِ وَجَدُوا مِنْہُ رَائِحَۃَ الظِّیْبِ وَقَالُوْا مَرَّ رَسُوْلُ اللّٰہِ ﷺ مِنْ ھٰذَا الطَّرِیْقِ
Whever the Messenger of Allah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – passed by any of streets of Madinah Munawwarah, people found beautiful fragrance emanating and would say, “RasoolAllah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has just passed through this street.”
(Darimi, Bayhaqi, Abu Nu’aim, Bazzaar in Dalail al-Nubuwwah p. 380, Khasaais Vol. 1, p. 67, Zurqani Vol. 4, p. 224)
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with him – reported that the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated: “I have been appointed with Jawaamie’ al-Kalim (The best form of speech where the entire concept can be expressed with just a few words) and I have been helped through dominance, and while I was sleep, I saw that the keys of the treasures of the earth were brought and kept in my hands.”

And the entire creation is made to turn towards you, and this glory is only for you!
Allah Almighty has grated His beloved Messenger – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – the station of being the captain of intercession. The description of this station of intercession is mentioned in the Holy Quran in the following words:
عَسٰۤی اَنۡ یَّبْعَثَکَ رَبُّکَ مَقَامًا مَّحْمُوۡدًا ﴿۷۹﴾
It is near that your Lord may make you stand at a place where all should praise you.
(Bani Israel 17, Verse 79)
There are many citations regarding “Maqaam Mahmood” but the most relevant one is that the objective of this station is “the station of great intercession”.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with him – that when the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – was asked concerning the verse:
عَسٰۤی اَنۡ یَّبْعَثَکَ رَبُّکَ مَقَامًا مَّحْمُوۡدًا ﴿۷۹﴾
It is near that your Lord may make you stand at a place where all should praise you.
(Bani Israel 17, Verse 79)
He replied:
“It’s the intercession.”
Hazrat Ibn Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – mentioned that people will go in groups to every Prophet for intercession but their matters will not be solved until the request of intercession will be sought in the court of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him:
فَذٰلِکَ الٌیَوْمُ یَبْعَثُہُ اللّٰہُ الْمَقَامَ الْمَحْمُوْدَ
That will be the day when Allah Almighty will appoint him on the Maqaam Mahmood.
(Bukhari – Kitaab Al-Tafseer)
On the Right Side of the ‘Arsh of Allah:
Where is Maqaam Mahmood?
Its location is also mentioned in the Hadeeth. Hazrat Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with him – narrated that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – stated:
“I will come out of my grave and the clothes of paradise will be put on me:
ثُمَّ اَقُوْمُ عَنْ یَمِیْنِ الْعَرْشِ لَیْسَ اَحَدٌ مِّنَ الْخَلَائِقِ یَقُوْمُ ذٰلِکَ الْمَقَامَ غَیْرِیْ
And then I will stand on the right side of the ‘Arsh of Allah, and this station will not be available to anyone else in the creation except me.”
Hazrat Mujaahid – may Allah be pleased with him – has interpreted the Maqaam Mahmood as follows:
اَنْ یُجْلِسَ اللّٰہُ مُحَمَّدًا مَعَہٗ عَلٰی کُرْسِیِّہٖ
That Allah Almighty will make Hazrat Muhammad – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – sit with Him on His throne.
(Al-Tadhkirah Li Al-Qurtubi p. 285)
Only He Has A Say In The Mahshar
It is the station where the entire humanity will gather and will request for intercession. He will then say, “Yes, Allah Almighty has granted me this great station.” The immense details of this scenario are mentioned in the Ahadeeth.
Hazrat Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with him – narrated that the Messenger of Allah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – stated:
“I will be the leader of all the children of Adam on the Day Judgment.”
And then he mentioned its details in the following manner:
“Allah Almighty will gather all the preceding and later generations in Mahshar (The place of Judgment). When they will not be able to endure the heat there, they will consult among themselves that they must look for someone that can intercede for them by Allah Almighty. They will firstly come to Hazrat Adam – peace be upon him – and request, ‘You are the father of mankind. Allah Almighty has created you with His own Blessed Hand and commanded the angels to prostrate for you, and then you stayed in paradise. Please have mercy on our state and intercede for us in Allah’s Court.’ He will reply:
My Lord is so angry today that He was never this angry before neither will He ever be.
He stopped me from going to the tree. I erred. I am concerned about myself. Go to someone else.’
This is how the entire creation of Allah will go to all the Prophets – peace be upon him – but they will mentioned their own slips and say, ‘We are concerned about ourselves. Go, look for some other support. The Almighty is so angry today that none has the courage to move his lips there.’ When they will come to Hazrat ‘Isa – peace be upon him – he will say, ‘I also cannot intercede but I can recommended the one whom Allah Almighty had already blessed with the glad tiding of intercession in the world:
اُلْقُوْا مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدًا غَفَرَ اللّٰہُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِہٖ وَمَا تَاَخَّرَ
Go to Muhammad (may Allah send peace and blessings upon him) a servant that Allah has forgiven the sins of his formers and of his latters on his accord.’
The entire creation will gather at the footsteps of Hazrat Muhammad – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – and request, ‘You are Allah’s beloved, the seal of Prophethood, and Allah Almighty has blessed you with the glad tiding of intercession. Please, having mercy on our state, intercede for us in Allah’s Court.’
He will say:
I am here for that purpose (i.e. to intercede).
I am your friend.
And then he stated, “I will fall in prostration in Allah’s Court under the ‘Arsh. Allah Almighty will inspire me with such words of Praise and Glory that no one has ever achieved except me, and while I be engaged in his Praise and Glory, He will say to me:
یَا مُحَمَّدُ اِرْفَعْ رَاْسَکَ وَسَلْ تُعْطَہٗ وَ اشْفِعْ تُشْفَعُ
O Muhammad (may Allah send peace and blessings upon him) raise your head and ask you will be granted, and intercede, your intercession shall be accepted.
I will say, ‘O Allah, please commence the accountability of the creation, and at that time the commencement of the entire mankind’s accountability will be processed, and that intercession will called “Shafa’at Al-Kubra” i.e. the greatest form of intercession, which will encompass all and sundry whether it’s an infidel, Muslim, friend or enemy.”
He also indicated towards the same concept in his following words:
وَبِیْ تُفْتَحُ الشَّفَاعَۃُ
“The portal of intercession will be opened by of me.”
Who Are The Beneficiaries Of The Intercession?:
The belief of some in regards to the intercession is that it will be limited to the pious only, which is not a correct view. Numerous narrations reject those views:
- Hazrat Abu Moosa Ash’ari – may Allah be pleased with him – narrated that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – said to me:
“Allah Almighty has given me choice between two things and said, ‘Take one of the two; either the intercession or the forgiveness of half the nation.’
Then I chose the intercession, for it has broader spectrum and it’s more sufficing. (Then he said) Do you think that the intercession is only for the Allah-fearing people? Absolutely not. But it will rather accommodate the erroneous people that are heavily involved in sinning.’”
(Al-Tadhkirah Lil Qurtubi 404)
- Imam Tirmidhi narrated form Hazrat Anas – may Allah be pleased with them – and Ibn Majah and Abu Dawood narrated from Hazrat Jabir – may Allah be pleased with them that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated while describing the broad spectrum of the intercession:
شَفَاعَتِیْ لِاَھْلِ الْکَبَائِرِ مِنْ اُمَّتِیْ
“My intercession is for the major sinners of my nation.”
- Imam Abul Hasan Daar Qutni narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah – may Allah be pleased with them – that when he – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – stated:
شَفَاعَتِیْ لِاَھْلِ الْکَبَائِرِ مِنْ اُمَّتِیْ
“My intercession is for the major sinners of my nation.”
The Companions asked:
“O the Messenger of Allah, how will the pious make it?”
He replied:
“As for the pious, they will enter paradise through their deeds and the sinners will enter the paradise through my intercession.”
(Al-Tadhkirah p. 403)
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with him – in Sahih Muslim that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – stated while mentioning the Pulsiraat:
“O Ummah! At the time when you will be walking on the Pulsiraat, your Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – will be standing on the bridge saying, ‘Rabbi Sallim” (O my Lord, make them pass in peace).”
(Al-Tadhkirah Lil Qurtubi p. 383)
Alahazrat becomes overwhelmed by the Hadeeth and says:
رضا پل سے اب وجد کرتے گزرئے
کہ ہے رَبِّ سَلِّمْ صدائے محمد ﷺ
Raza Pul Se Ab Wajd Karte Guzariye
Ki Hai Rabbi Salli Sada-e-Muhammad – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him
O Raza! Now cross the bridge in the state of ecstasy
For, “Rabbi Sallim” is the call of Hazrat Muhammad – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him.
All the great station that will be bestowed upon the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – are already promised by Allah Almighty in the Holy Quran which He will fulfill there:
وَ لَسَوْفَ یُعْطِیۡکَ رَبُّکَ فَتَرْضٰی ؕ﴿۵﴾
And undoubtedly, soon your Lord shall give you so much that you shall be satisfied.
(Al-Duha 93, Verse 5)
The Most Hopeful Verse of The Holy Quran:
Allah Almighty has revealed many verses in the Holy Quran to raise the hopes of His servants by showing mercy to them. One amongst them is:
قُلْ یٰعِبَادِیَ الَّذِیۡنَ اَسْرَفُوۡا عَلٰۤی اَنۡفُسِہِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوۡا مِنۡ رَّحْمَۃِ اللہِ ؕ اِنَّ اللہَ یَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوۡبَ جَمِیۡعًا ؕ اِنَّہٗ ہُوَ الْغَفُوۡرُ الرَّحِیۡمُ ﴿۵۳﴾
Say you, ‘O My bondmen who have committed excesses against their own souls ‘despair not of the mercy of Allah’ Undoubtedly, Allah forgives all sins, Verily He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
(Al-Zumar 39, Verse 53)
This verse is revealed for the sinners as a great support and hope for them but even greater than that is the verse:
وَ لَسَوْفَ یُعْطِیۡکَ رَبُّکَ فَتَرْضٰی ؕ﴿۵﴾
And undoubtedly, soon your Lord shall give you so much that you shall be satisfied.
(Al-Duha 93, Verse 5)
Once, Hazrat Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – asked the Ulama:
“Do you consider the verse:
قُلْ یٰعِبَادِیَ الَّذِیۡنَ اَسْرَفُوۡا عَلٰۤی اَنۡفُسِہِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوۡا مِنۡ رَّحْمَۃِ اللہِ ؕ اِنَّ اللہَ یَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوۡبَ جَمِیۡعًا ؕ اِنَّہٗ ہُوَ الْغَفُوۡرُ الرَّحِیۡمُ ﴿۵۳﴾
Say you, ‘O My bondmen who have committed excesses against their own souls ‘despair not of the mercy of Allah’ Undoubtedly, Allah forgives all sins, Verily He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
(Al-Zumar 39, Verse 53)
To be the most hopeful verse of the Quran?” “Yes”, they replied, “We do consider this one to be as such.” He said, “We, the household of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send him peace and blessings – have this belief:
وَ لَسَوْفَ یُعْطِیۡکَ رَبُّکَ فَتَرْضٰی ؕ﴿۵﴾
And undoubtedly, soon your Lord shall give you so much that you shall be satisfied.
(Al-Duha 93, Verse 5)
Is greater in hope than:
قُلْ یٰعِبَادِیَ الَّذِیۡنَ اَسْرَفُوۡا عَلٰۤی اَنۡفُسِہِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوۡا مِنۡ رَّحْمَۃِ اللہِ ؕ اِنَّ اللہَ یَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوۡبَ جَمِیۡعًا ؕ اِنَّہٗ ہُوَ الْغَفُوۡرُ الرَّحِیۡمُ ﴿۵۳﴾
Say you, ‘O My bondmen who have committed excesses against their own souls ‘despair not of the mercy of Allah’ Undoubtedly, Allah forgives all sins, Verily He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
(Al-Zumar 39, Verse 53)”
And then Imam Qurtubi mentions the reason as to why this verse is the most hopeful of all the Quranic verses and writes:
“When the verse:
And undoubtedly, soon your Lord shall give you so much that you shall be satisfied.
(Al-Duha 93, Verse 5)
Was revealed, the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – stated:
اِذَا وَاللّٰہِ لَا اَرْضَ وَوَاحِدٌ مِّنْ اُمَّتِیْ فِیْ النَّارِ
“Now, I swear by Allah! I will never be pleased even if one member of my Ummah is in the fire.”
(Tafseer Qurtubi Vol. 10, p. 96)
It is narrated from Hazrat Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – in Musnad Bazzar that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – stated:
“I will be interceding and people will be entering the paradise until a call will come from Allah:
اَقَدْ رَضِیْتَ یَامُحَمَّدُ
Are you well pleased, O Muhammad?
And I shall reply:
اَیْ رَبِّ قَدْ رَضِیْتُ
O my Lord, now I am well pleased.
(Al-Imaan Bi ‘Awaalim Al-Aakhirah p. 205)

You split the moon with a gesture; you brought back the sun
You restored the day back to evening after it had set; these lights and illumination are all for you!
It is mentioned that when the disbelievers in Mecca Shareef asked the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – for a miracle, he then split the moon. One part was seen on the mount of Abu Qubais and the other on the mount of Qa’eeqan. The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – also made the people a witness to this miracle. (Jalaalain)
When they saw this, some of them remarked that the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had merely performed magic and had mesmerised them. When the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – heard this statement of theirs, he informed them to ask those travellers who were returning whether they had also seen this miracle while they were travelling.
When these travellers were questioned, they made it clear that they had seen the moon split in two. When they heard this, the disbelievers were speechless, but still remained adamant on their disbelief and continued to say that this was nothing but magic.
This miracle of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – is mentioned in many authentic books of AHadith and has reached such a state of authenticity that it is impossible to refute it. If one continues to refute it, they are only doing this based on Kufr and enmity for the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.” (Khazaa’inul Irfaan, 428)
The splitting of the moon is a miracle of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – which has no answer and has been proven from the Qur’an and many Ahadith. In reference to this, A’la Hadrat Imam Ahmed Raza – may Allah be pleased with him – states, “The sun returned turning its heels, the moon was split with a mere indication. O blind Najdis, look at the power of the Prophet of Allah Almighty.”

Allah Almighty stated, “O Adam, had you interceded for the entire population of the earth and heavens through his medium, I would have accepted your intercession.”

hum aye yahan tumhare liye; uthen bhi wahan tumhare liye

“Allah Almighty has given me choice between two things and said, ‘Take one of the two; either the intercession or the forgiveness of half the nation.’
Then I chose the intercession, for it has broader spectrum and it’s more sufficing. (Then he said) Do you think that the intercession is only for the Allah-fearing people? Absolutely not. But it will rather accommodate the erroneous people that are heavily involved in sinning.’”
(Al-Tadhkirah Lil Qurtubi 404)
“My intercession is for the major sinners of my nation.”
O blind Najdis, look at the power of the Prophet of Allah Almighty.”
saba wo chale ke bagh phale wo phool khile ke din hon bhale
liwa ke tale sana mein khule raza ki zaban tumhare liye
The swift breeze blows for the gardens to blossom; the flowers bloom for our days to be pleasing
and under the Standard, may Raza’s mouth open only to praise you, my master!
