Allah Almighty states in the Holy Quran:

قُلْ اِنۡ کُنۡتُمْ تُحِبُّوۡنَ اللہَ فَاتَّبِعُوۡنِیۡ یُحْبِبْکُمُ اللہُ وَ یَغْفِرْ لَکُمْ ذُنُوۡبَکُمْؕ وَاللہُ غَفُوۡرٌ رَّحِیۡمٌ﴿۳۱﴾

‘O beloved! Say you, ‘O people! If you love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you and forgive your sins and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

(Aale ‘Imran 3, Verse 31)

Love of RasoolAllah is the Criterion of Iman:

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – has stated:

None of you can become a believer until I become more beloved to him than his parents, children and all the people.

(Bukhari)

The Villager’s Love for His Master:

Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:

When a villager was blessed with the pleasure of meeting the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him, upon seeing the luminous face of RasoolAllah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – he exclaimed, “Ya RasoolAllah, not only my parents but you are more beloved to me than my own life and existence.  You are the one who rules over my inner and outer world.”

(Tareekh Ibn Katheer Vol. 2, p. 149)

Three Crucial Requirements for the Sweetness of Iman:

Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik – may Allah be pleased with him – reported that the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – stated:

There are three things; if found in someone, he has attained the sweetness of Iman:

  1. He hates reverting to kufr as much as he hates being thrown into fire.
  2. Whomever he loves, he does it for the sake of Allah.
  3. Allah and His Messenger are more beloved to him than the entire world.

(Bukhari)

Your Iman is Now Complete:

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Mehdi – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:

Hadrat Sayyiduna Sufyan – may Allah be pleased with him – once spent the night with me and when he became extremely perturbed, he began to weep.  Someone asked him, “O Abu Abdullah! Are you weeping because of excessive sin?” Hadrat Sayyiduna Sufyan – may Allah be pleased with him – picked up a stick from the floor and stated, “I swear by Allah that sin with me is even lessor than this stick, what I fear (the most) is that before death my Imaan is not taken away.” (Sifatus Safwah)

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hishaam – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that once the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – was going somewhere in the company of the blessed Ashaab and he was holding the hand of Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him.  Displaying his immense love and reverence for the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – remarked, “Besides my own life, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – is most beloved to me.”

When the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – heard this, he declared, “None of you can be a complete believer until and unless I am not more beloved to him than his own life.”

Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – then declared, “O Prophet of Allah! I swear in the Name of the Allah Almighty that you are more beloved to me than my own life.”

The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – stated, “O ‘‘Umar! Now your Imaan has become complete.”

(Sahih Bukhari)

The Dry Tree-trunk crying in its Separation from the Beloved:

Sayyiduna Jabir ibn Abdullah – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:

When Masjid al-Nabawi shareef had rooftops made of palm woods (in the early stages), the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – used to deliver sermons reclining on a tree trunk.  When the Minbar shareef was built we heard the tree trunk crying in the separation of the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – similar to a she-camel would cry when going into labour.  Those who were present also began to cry.  The Companions said, “If the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – did not place his hand over it, our hearts would have shattered.”

RasoolAllah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – Blessed it and its Love for the Beloved earned it the Eternal Abode in Paradise:

Sayyiduna Buraidah – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – consoled the tree trunk upon listening to its suffering and said, “If you wish, I can return you to the state of youth as you were where you will blossom and sprout branches out of you and you will turn into a fully- fledged tree and start bearing fruits, or if you wish, I can plant you in Paradise where the AwliyaAllah will eat from your fruit.”

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – moved closer to it and place his ear.  It requested, “Plant me in Paradise so that the AwliyaAllah may eat from my fruit and I do not get old.”

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – then said, “Alright, I will plant you in Paradise.  You have preferred the eternal house over the perishable one.”

(Bukhari, Muslim, Al-Shifa Vol. 1, p. 471)

ہم رسول اللہ کے جنت رسول اللہ کی

Ham RasoolAllah ke, Jannat RasoolAllah ki

We belong to RasoolAllah and he has the ownership of Paradise…

(Hadaaiqe Bakhshish – AlaHazrat)

Imam Qadhi ‘Iyad writes in his Al-Shifa on p. 473 that whenever Sayyiduna Hasan Basri – may Allah be pleased with him – narrated this Hadeeth, he would start to cry vigorously.

When this is the state of a dry tree trunk in the love of the beloved then we must certainly show more enthusiasm in his love and reverence.

Any Contact with the Blessed Personality of the Beloved Nabi – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – Guarantees Paradise:

Imam Ahmed Qastalani – may Allah be pleased with him – writes in Mawahib al-Ladunniyyah Vol. 1, p. 284 that when the blessed lips of the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – got injured during the battle of Uhad and they began to bleed, Sayyiduna Malik ibn Senan – may Allah be pleased with him – got overwhelmed and placed his lips over it out of his immense love and began to suck on his blood to the extent that it turned pale.  The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – said, “Let go of it now, O Malik.”

He said, “Oh my Master, how could I leave it”.

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – knew that he did it out of love and concern and remarked, “Whoever wants to see a Jannati (member of Paradise), he must look at this young man.”

Love of Sayyiduna Sewad Ansari – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him:

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – had poked the stomach of a Sahabi, namely Sayyiduna Sewad – may Allah be pleased with him – with his stick during the alignment of the battle of Badr.   Sayyiduna Sewad – may Allah be pleased with him – said, “I will take revenge for this.”

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – offered himself.  Sayyiduna Sewad – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – said, “Ya RasoolAllah, when you had placed your stick on my stomach, the garment there was removed, therefore, you should take off your shirt as well.”

The Sahaba were bewildered as to what had gotten into Sayyiduna Sewad Ansari today.  The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – removed his shirt from his stomach.  Sayyiduna Sewad – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – magnetically attached himself to the blessed body of RasoolAllah and kissed it, then said, “Ya RasoolAllah, we are preparing for the battle, I yearn for martyrdom, chances are I may not survive, so I just wanted to establish my connection with you for the last time.

(Al-Bidayah wal-Nihayah)

Fire of Love in the Battle of Badr:

It was a breath-taking time when Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – was faced with his own son Abdur Rahman, Sayyiduna Hudhaifah with his father ‘Atabah.  When brothers were fighting against brothers in the battle.

After embracing Islam, Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman – may Allah be pleased with him – began to tell his father Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him, “Dear father, many a times you came under my sword during the battle of Badr but I did not attack you thinking that you are my father.”  Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – said, “If you had come under my sword even once, I would have beheaded you for being with the enemies of the beloved Nabi – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him.”

Cries of Sayyiduna Anas in the Separation of the Beloved:

After the departure of RasoolAllah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – from the world, Sayyiduna Anas – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – would always cherish the memories of the beloved and would also hear from others anything related to the beloved Mustafa.  It always left his eyes moist and wet from tears flowing and rolling down his cheeks, and sometimes they would not stop until he went home and made the Ziyarath of the Tabarrukaat of RasoolAllah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – he had kept with him.

You will be Reunited with the One You Love:

In the Hadeeth of Bukhari, Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) states that a Sahabi came and asked:

مَتَی السَّاعَۃُ یَا رَسُوْلَ اللّٰہِ

When will the Qiyamah take place, O the Messenger of Allah?

The beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – replied:

وَیْلَکَ! مَا اَعْدَدْتَ لَھَا

Leave that, tell me what have you prepared for it?

He replied:

مَا اَعْدَدْتُ لَھَا

I have not prepared for it.

These were the words in Bukhari but the wordings of Tirmidhi are:

مَا اَعْدَدْتُ لَھَا مِنْ کَثْرَۃِ صَلَاۃٍ وَلَا صَوْمٍ

i.e. Neither I have a large number of fasts, nor Salah.

It is obvious that being a Sahabi, it is not expected of him to be negligent of Fard Salah.  So, it means that neither did he have a large number of Nafl worship.  So, what did he have?

He said:

غَیْرَ اَنِّیْ اُحِبُّ اللّٰہَ وَرَسُوْلَہٗ

(The only thing I do have is) that I undoubtedly love Allah and His Rasool.

What did the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – say to him after that?

فَاَنْتَ مَعَ مَنْ اَحْبَبْتَ

Then you will be with the one you love (in the hereafter).

It means that if one loves RasoolAllah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – he will be with him on the day of judgment.

Hazrat Anas – may Allah be pleased with him – says:

مَا رَاَیْنَا فَرِحَ اَصْحَابَ رَسُوْلَ اللّٰہِ ﷺبَعْدَ الْاِسْلَام ِ فَرَحَھُمْ بِھٰذَا

We had never seen the Sahaba this happy after embracing Islam.

They were never so happy compared to the time when they heard that they will get the company of the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – with the love they have for him.  They always preserved the love and Honour of the beloved in their hearts.

Love for the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam

It is reported that on the day of Uhud, when the result of the Battle reached Madina Shareef that many Muslims had been martyred, the Muslims females in Madina Shareef were greatly disturbed.  They also came out of their houses in sadness.

One of the ladies of the Ansaar was informed by the blessed Ashaab that her brother, her husband and her father had also been martyred.  Yet, they were shocked that she displayed no interest in this news and continued to ask them, “Please inform me, how is my Master?”

They informed her that the Noble Messenger of Allah Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam was well and safe.  She then asked them to show her where the Noble Messenger of Allah Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam was resting.  When she was taken to the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam and saw him, she declared, “With you being present, all other difficulties are nothing.” (Tabari, 1435)

Lesson

We see that a human being is in the habit of not feeling so much of pain or stress when in the presence of something which he or she loves extremely if another object is lost.  As a matter of fact, when a person sees something which he or she loves, then pain and difficulty seems to become light and manageable.  At the same time, these blessed souls have also heard the words of the Noble Messenger of Allah Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam when he said, “None of you can be a true Muslim or believer until I do not become more beloved to him than his parents, his children and all of mankind.” (Bukhari Shareef)

They were people who lived and practiced these words, hence this is the reason that they felt no pain or sadness when anything left them.

For them, every member of their family was nothing compared to the immense love and reverence which they had for the Noble Messenger of Allah Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam.  As long as they could see the Noble Messenger of Allah Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam in front of them, they were able to handle any sadness and loss.

In fact, the blessed being of the Noble Messenger of Allah Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam was like a blessed medication on their painful hearts.  Can you for one moment imagine the condition of this blessed female? There is no doubt that she must have felt sadness at the loss of her father, her brother and her husband. Which human being would not feel unhappy? Nevertheless, when she saw the blessed face of the Noble Messenger of Allah Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam, for her, all sadness and difficulties seemed to have faded away.  Imagine for one moment the immense love and reverence these individuals had for the Noble Messenger of Allah Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam?

We should also endeavour to increase love and reverence for the Noble Messenger of Allah Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam in our hearts as well. In actuality, that person who has genuine love for the Noble Messenger of Allah Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam, no difficulty is too much of a difficulty for them.

A’la Hadrat, Imam Ahmed Raza Radi Allahu ‘Anhu states, “That person who is his true and ardent Aashiq, no matter how much of sadness they may experience, when they begin to think of him, all their sadness disappears.” (Hadaaiq-e-Bakhshish)

We make Du’a that Allah azza wajal also blesses us with this love and reverence. Aameen.

They Loved RasoolAllah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him:

It is mentioned that on the day when Mecca Shareef was captured by the Muslims, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – was making Tawaaf.  There was a person named Fadaalah who was also following him.  The intention of this person was to kill the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.

When he came nearer the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – looked at him and asked, “Are you Fadaalah?”

He replied that he was Fadaalah.

The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then asked him, “What is it that you keep hidden in your heart?”

He replied that there was nothing hidden in his heart.  When the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – heard this reply, he smiled broadly and said, “Make Taubah in the Divine Court of the Allah Almighty.”

The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then placed his blessed hand on the chest of this individual.  Later, this same person admits, “No sooner had the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – raised his blessed hands when he became the most beloved creation in my sight.” (Ibn Hishaam; Seerat)

It is reported that when the Ansaar came to swear allegiance on the second occasion, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – gave them the message of Islam and recited the Qur’an for them.  He also encouraged them to accept Islam.  He then asked, “Do you people swear an oath that you will protect me as you protect your women and children?”

Hadrat Sayyiduna Baraa bin Ma’rur – may Allah be pleased with him – replied, “Yes, (we swear) in the Name of that Divine Being Who has sent you with truth that we will protect you as we protect our women and children.  We are people who are trained in warfare and people who carry weapons, and this is something we achieved from our elders.”

Abu Hathim then said, “O Prophet of Allah– may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him! There is also doubt that we have a pact of friendship with the Jews which we are going to cancel.  Do you agree to this and if Allah Almighty gives you victory, will you return to your nation and leave us alone?”

When the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – heard this, he smiled and replied, “My blood is your blood, my respect is your respect, I am from you and you are from me, I will fight against those who fight against you and I will give safety to those whom you have given safety to.” (ibn Hishaam; Seerat)

Their sense of Imaan.

It is mentioned that prior to the pact of Hudaybiyah, the Meccans sent Urwah bin Mas’ud As Saqafi to inspect the state and condition of the Muslims.  When he arrived, he mentioned that the Quraish will not allow them to enter Mecca as a conquering army.  He said, “They have also prepared themselves. I also advise you that these people who are with you, are at this moment from different tribes, they will abandon you and run.  You will be left alone.”

When he heard these words, Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – angrily replied, “I will command you to kiss the private area of Laat. You think we will run from you?”

He asked, “O Muhammad! Who is this person?”

The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – replied, “This is the son Abu Quhafah”.

He then continued to address the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –directly and even wanted to hold the beard of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.  Before he could do this, Hadrat Sayyiduna Mughayrah bin Shubah – may Allah be pleased with him, who was standing next to the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – as guard, shouted, “Do not touch the beard of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – with your filthy and dirty hands.  If you continue to do this, I will break your hands.”

When the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – saw the extreme bravery of one his beloved companions, he smiled broadly.

When Urwah asked the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – who this person was, he replied, “This is the son of your own brother Mughayrah bin Shubah.”

Ibn Shihaab writes, “When Ash’as bin Qais at the head of the Bani Kandah appeared in Madina Shareef, they were eighty riders.  Before coming to meet the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – they made sure that they oiled their hair and combed it properly.  They also applied Surmah to their eyes and wore clean and bright jubbas which had silk embroidery at the ends.  Only then, did they approach the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.  When the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –saw them, he asked, “Have you people not yet accepted Islam?” They replied, “Yes indeed, we have accepted Islam.” The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then (had them remove the silk embroidery) and throw it away. (Ibn Hishaam; Seerat)

It is mentioned that Hadrat Sayyiduna Jafer bin Abu Talib – may Allah be pleased with him – arrived from Abyssinia on the same day when the Fort of Khyber was captured.  When the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – saw him, he hugged him warmly and kissed him on his forehead.  He also mentioned to others around him that he was unaware of whether he was happier to see his companion or whether he was happier at the conquest of Khyber. (Ibn Hishaam).

In other words, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – displayed immense love and affection for his beloved companions and family. Likewise, they also returned the same amount of love and respect for him.  We can see that they did not even allow anyone who was not a Muslim to speak to him no matter how much they wanted to.  They did not even allow anyone who was not a Muslim to touch his blessed beard.

It is sad to note that in the present age, people will think about their families before they think about the respect which is owed to the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.  If their families are non-Sunnis, they will sit and eat with these people simply because the person is a family member. They will think nothing of the fact that this person had insulted the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and the dignity of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.

But when we look at the story above, we will see that a nephew did not even allow his own uncle to touch the blessed beard of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –simply because this person was not a Muslim. If we look at the blessed lives of the Ashaab and the lives of the Muslims of today, there is certainly a vast difference. This is reason that our enemies of today will look at us and laugh and when they saw the blessed Ashaab, they would cower like frightened animals. That means that all our power, wealth, status, and position equals to nothing in the present climate.  We can shout, scream and howl as much as we can, no one would be prepared to listen to us.  We have forgotten that the key to success is total love and respect for the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, for his blessed family and for his blessed companions.

The Camels loved the Holy Prophet

It is reported that on the Farewell Hajj or Hujjatul Wida a very strange incident was seen on the day of Qurbani or Eidul Adha.

The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –had brought a hundred camels to be slaughtered.  When he picked up the knife to perform the Nahr, every camel came forward to present itself as the first sacrifice.

This is a display of the immense love and reverence for the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – which was displayed by mere camels. Each one of them were prepared to sacrifice their lives at the blessed hands of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.

This is a sign of true love and reverence which Allah Almighty has placed in the hearts of certain creation. We see that this was displayed by different creations around the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – whether it was a mere trunk of a date tree or a mere tree.  It is sad to see that there are people in this world who have not yet understood the importance of this love and reverence which is a vital part of Imaan and Islam.

It is also mentioned that the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – indicated at the number of years he was going to be in this world and then allowed Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – to continue sacrificing the rest of the camels.

The act of Nahr is when the camel’s feet, either two or three, are firstly tied and a knife is then pierced into the lowest part of the throat so that most of the blood leaves the body.  After the animal falls to the ground, the neck is then cut. This method of Qurbani is called “Nahr”.
