Allah Almighty states in the Holy Quran:

Indeed, nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord.

(Al-Fajr 89, Verse 14)

Tafseer:

Assuredly your Lord is ever on the watch, watching over the deeds of servants, nothing of which escapes Him, that He may then requite them for these [deeds].

(Tafseer Jalalain)

Hadeeth:

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with him – reported: The Messenger of Allah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – said, “It is from the beauty of a person’s Islam that he should abandon that which is of no concern to him”.

(Tirmidhi)

Commentary – the Secret of a Jannati Sahabi:

Hadeeth of the beloved Nabi – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him, he stated:

The first person to enter this door will be a man of Paradise.

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Salam – may Allah be pleased with him – entered, so the people surrounded him and gave him the good news.  They asked him, “Tell us, the reason for this, which action has enabled you to this status?”

He replied, “My actions are but a little, and what I hope from Allah is the safety of my chest (from malice and envy) and leaving pointless pursuits.

(Al-Samt of Imam Ibn Abi al-Dunya Vol. 7, p. 84)

This lovely Hadeeth encompasses the loss of everything one loves; one’s parents, wife, children, loss of health etc., if one observes patience at the loss of anything that was dear to him, Allah willing, he will deserve Paradise.  Hence this Hadeeth is a great glad tiding.

(Mir’aat al-Manajeeh Vol. 2, p. 505)

Lesson:

  • This Hadith lays down a very important principle, that one should avoid senseless talk and actions.
  • If one acts upon this principle, he can save himself from many vices and evil involvements.
