The Greatest Vicegerent of Allah Almighty
Every Prophet is a vicegerent of Allah but the leader of them all, is the beloved Prophet Muhammad – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him.
Allamah Alusi – may Allah be pleased with him – writes in his Tafseer under the verse:
And recall when your Lord said to the Angels, I am about to place a vice-gerent in the earth, they said, “will You place such who will spread disorder there in and shed blood’? and We praise You commending You and sanctify You”. He told, ‘I know what you know not’.
It is he who is in reality the greatest vicegerent of Allah amongst the creation and the top leader in the earth as well as in the heavens above, and if it were not for his sake, He would not have created Adam (peace be upon him) or anything else.
(Roohul Ma’aani Vol. 1, p. 218)
The sun returns after setting:
Once, the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – sent Hazrat Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – to collect the war-booty, and upon his return people had already perfomed Asr Salah with congregation. The beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – rested with his head on his lap and took the report about the distribution of the booty, and then the revelation of Wahy began – while some other narrations suggest that he had fallen asleep – which is not contradictory for both is possible depending on the context. The sun had set in the process and Hazrat Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – still had his Asr Salah to perform. Hazrat Asma bint Umais – may Allah be pleased with her – says that the beloved Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – prayed to Allah:
O Allah, he was in Your obedience and serving Your Prophet, so please return the sun for him
The sun had already set but the sun had returned upon his Du’a so much so that the mountains were lit up, Hazrat Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – made Wudu and performed Asr Salah and then the sun disappeared.
(Shamaail al-Rasool Vol. 1, p. 189)
The moon split into two by the indication of his finger:
It is narrated by Sayyiduna Anas, ibn Mas’ood, ibn Abbaas and ibn Umar – may Allah be pleased with them – that the people of Makkah Mukarramah demanded from him to split the moon in into two if he was truly a Prophet. Because they doubted him to be a magician and believed that magic cannot affect the sky, hence they demanded him to perform this miracle:
So he showed them the two halves of the sun separated and they saw the mount of Hira through the two pieces.
(Al-Bukhari, Chapter of splitting the moon)
Not only the Quraish but even the people from other parts of the world witnessed this miracle but Alas! The ill-fated people made excuses to turn it against him as the narration of Al-Jami al-Usool suggests:
Whenever the travelers visited Makkah Mukarramah they would tell the Quraish that they witnesss the miracle and up[on that they used to accuse them of lying.
(Al-Jami al-Usool, Vol. 11, p. 396)
