It is mentioned that these people kept the name of this idol which they extracted from the Divine Name, “Azeez”. It is said that it was once a tree on which a room was built. The room was then draped in a cloth. It was situated between Yemen and Taif and the disbelievers highly respected this idol. Imam Nisaa’i – may Allah be pleased with him – reports that after the conquest of Mecca Shareef, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – sent Hadrat Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid – may Allah be pleased with him – to destroy this place.

 

All he did was destroy the trees around that area. He then informed the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – what he had done. The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –mentioned that he had not yet completed his task and that he should return. Bear in mind that like most people around, he also displayed a sense of fear for this idol which was to be expected as people had made up all types of the stories of this idol.

 

On his return, as Hadrat Sayyiduna Khalid bin Waleed – may Allah be pleased with him – approached this idol, a female appeared who was completely naked. Her hair was also dishevelled and she was throwing sand on her head. When the blessed companion saw this, he had her immediately killed. He then appeared in front of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and mentioned what had happened. The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then mentioned to everyone that this female was actually Uzza. (Abu Naeem, Ad Dalaa’il)
