Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman Madani – may Allah be pleased with him – enjoys a great status among the learned ‘Ulama of the Quraish. He is also considered as being among the seven famous jurists of Madina Shareef. In the faculty of Hadith, he attained knowledge from Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah – may Allah be pleased with him, Sayyidah Ayesha and Ummul Mo’mineen, Sayyidah Umme Salmah – may Allah be pleased with them.


His students included such giants as Imam Zuhri, Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar bin Abdul Aziz – may Allah be pleased with them – etc. Imam Waqidi – may Allah be pleased with him – has referred to him as being extremely authentic and Imam ibn Hiraash has referred to him as “Imamul Muslimeen” and a leader among the Quraish.


Even though he was blind, but due to his immense knowledge of Hadith, he was unmatched. At the same time, due to his immense Ibadah, he was considered as the “Imam Zainul Aabideen” of his era.


People also referred to him as the head priest of the Quraish. It is said that he spent so much of time in Sajdah, that his palms began to heat up. In fact, such was the state of his Sajdah that a special plate of water used to be kept near his place of Sajdah to cool his palms. He passed away in 93 A.H. (Tahzeeb)
