Download PDF: [S] He did not accept the War Booty
Hadrat Sayyiduna Shaddad bin bin Ilhaad – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:
Once a Bedouin appeared in front of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. He accepted Imaan and decided to obey and follow the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. He also said that he wanted to migrate with the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. (In another words, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had emphasised upon Muslims to migrate to Madina Shareef as much as possible).
When a certain battle took place, the spoils of war also came to the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then distributed this among everyone and also took out a portion for this person. He then gave this portion to the companions of the Bedouin so that they could hand it over to him. He was also someone who was shepherding the animals of his companions. When the approached him, they handed him his share and when he asked what this was, they replied that this was his share which the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had kept for him.
However, the Bedouin took this and appeared in front of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. He asked what this was. The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – replied that this was his share of booty. However, he mentioned to the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – that he not accepted Imaan for this purpose or followed the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – for this purpose. He then pointed to his neck and stated that he had accepted Islam so that an arrow would pierce this part of his body and that he would enter Jannah after he dies.
The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then said to him. “If you have spoken the truth to Allah, then certainly, you would be treated in the same way by Allah.”
After a while, he fought against the enemies of Islam and he passed away in this battle. His body was presented to the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. In fact, the arrow had struck him in exactly the same spot to which he had indicated to. The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then inquired whether this was the same Bedouin. The blessed Ashaab replied that this was indeed the same person. The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – replied, “He had spoken the truth to Allah Almighty and this is how he was treated by Allah.”
The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then gave the person a kafan himself and performed his Janazah himself. He also made a special Du’a for the person which was in the following words, “O Allah! This is indeed Your servant. He also migrated on Your Path and was martyred and I bear witness on this.” (Sunan Nisaa’i)
