Download PDF: [S] The True State of the World
Abdullah, who was actually, Ibn Abid Dunya, has recorded from a long chain of narrators from Hadrat Sayyiduna Wahb bin Mambah – may Allah be pleased with him – that, “The world and the Hereafter is like two wives which a person has. If one is pleased, the other becomes displeased.” (Kitaab Al Zuhd, ibn Mubaarak; Hulyatul Awliya)
He again records from a long chain of narrators from Hadrat Sayyiduna Abul Haakin Sayyaar – may Allah be pleased with him – who admits that, “When the world and the Hereafter is found in the heart of someone, then that which is more powerful will overshadow the other.” (Hulyatul Awliyah; Al Ihya)
He again records from Sayyiduna Abu Sulayman – may Allah be pleased with him – who states that, “When the Hereafter enters the heart of anyone, then the world begins to complain to him. However, when the world enters the heart of anyone, the Hereafter does not complain with him because the Hereafter is something which is pure and clean and the world is something which is impure and unclean.” (Al Hulya, Safwatul Safwah)
He again records from Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinaar – may Allah be pleased with him – who mentions that, “As much as you become sad about the world or regretful about the world, so much so, concern for the Hereafter will disappear from your heart. In like manner, as much as you are concerned about the Hereafter, so much so, concern for the world will disappear from your heart.” (Al Ihyah, Safwatul Safwah)
He again reports through a long chain from Hadrat Sayyiduna Fudail in Ayyaz – may Allah be pleased with him – who states that Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas – may Allah be pleased with them – mentions that, “On the Day of Judgement, the world will be brought forward in the appearance of an old lady whose eyes are squinted and whose teeth are protruding. She will be extremely ugly. She will be presented in front of all creation and they will be asked, ‘Do you recognize who this person is?’ The world will reply, ‘We seek protection in Allah Almighty from recognizing something like this.’ It will be told to them, ‘This is the same Dunya because of whom you had even killed others for. This is the same Dunya because of which you had severed family for. You displayed jealousy for others because this. You displayed enmity and hatred for other because of this.’ After that, it will be placed in the Fire of Hell. The world will then scream out, ‘O Allah! Where are those who used to love me and follow me, allow them to also join me.’ The Allah Almighty will then command all those who used to love and follow the Dunya to follow her into the Fire of Hell.” (Al Ihya, Al Ittihaaf)
Abdullah reports through a chain of narrators from ibn Ayniyah – may Allah be pleased with him – who mentions that, “What is the actual reality of the world in my sight? If I am extremely thirsty, I will be prepared to sell all of it for a mere glass of water.” (Kitab Az Zuhd)
In other words, the Awliya gave us a true picture of the Dunya and its actual state in their eyes. It is a pity that when we look at the world and when we look at what people are doing to beautify it, it boggles the mind. And yet, the Hadith Shareef and the statements of the Awliya give us ample proof of its true reality. Therefore, if we continue to run after it, there is no doubt that we will certainly be among who will find ultimate doom as the world will find ultimate doom.
In the present time, when people are told to spend something for Islam, they would think twice to do so, yet, the words of the Awliya prove to us that they are actually trying to save something which is fit to be nothing but a toilet system. How stupid can a person be? When we say that people have become enemies of the brain, the amount of people who run after the world, clearly proves that we are correct in this assumption.
