DOwnload PDF: [S] Malik bin Dinaar purchases a Mansion in Jannah

It is mentioned that once, the great Saint, Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinar – may Allah be pleased with him, was walking around Basrah when he entered a huge mansion which was being built. He noticed a young man among all the other workers who was highly intent on showing the artisans how to build the mansion.

The great Saint mentioned to his companion, Jafer bin Sulayman, “Look at the immense interest and attention which the young man is showing in constructing this house. I am very concerned about him and we should make Du’a that Allah Almighty changes his destiny. What will happen if this young man enters Jannah?”

Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinar – may Allah be pleased with him then approached the young man with his companion and greeted him. At that moment, the young man did not recognize Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinar – may Allah be pleased with him. However, when he came to know who he was taking to, he displayed immense respect and reverence for the great Saint and wanted to know whether he could personally help the great Saint with anything.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinar – may Allah be pleased with him asked him, “How much do you intend to spend on this mansion?”

The young man replied that his intention was to spend nearly a hundred thousand Dirhams on constructing the mansion.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinar – may Allah be pleased with him said, “if you hand over this money to me, then I will guarantee you a mansion even more beautiful and wonderful then this mansion. The sand of this mansion is mushk and saffron. It will never be destroyed. Not only will you receive one mansion, but it will also come with numerous servants and its dome is made from rubies and pearls. This mansion has not been created by any artisans but has been created with the Divine Command of Allah through His Divine Word of ‘Kun’.”

The young man replied that he needed the evening to think about it. After this conversation, all the workers left the area.

It is reported that Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinar – may Allah be pleased with him continued to think about the young man the entire evening and spent the entire night making Du’a for the young man.

In the morning, he saw that the young man was standing at his front door with the money. The young man then asked whether Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinar – may Allah be pleased with him – remembered his words of yesterday. Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinar – may Allah be pleased with him – replied that indeed he remembered his words and promise. The young man then handed the one hundred thousand Dinaars and also handed the great Saint a piece of paper and a pen.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinar – may Allah be pleased with him – then took the pen and wrote the following words on the paper, “Allah in Whose Name Most Beneficent, Most Merciful. Malik bin Dinar is a guarantor for the following person, who is the son of so and so, for a mansion which has the following qualities and if there is more in this mansion, this is certainly Divine Mercy of Allah.”

He then took the money from the young man and distributed all of it among the poor and needy. Not even forty days had passed when one morning, Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinar – may Allah be pleased with him – was leaving the Masjid after the Fajr Salaah, when he noticed a piece of paper near the Mimbar. He noticed that it was the same piece of writing which he had given to the young and on the back of this same paper, the following words were written we in Nur, “This is a message from the Divine Creator to Malik bin Dinar that whatever he had guaranteed a certain person, We have fulfilled that promise and guarantee. Indeed, We have given him seventy times more.”

When Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinar – may Allah be pleased with him – saw this piece of paper, he ran to the house of the young man but could see that there were people standing at the front door who were weeping. He was then told that the young man had passed away. The person who was in charge of the Ghusal also informed the great Saint that the last wish of the young man was that when he is placed in his grave, a piece of paper also be placed inside his Kafan.

When Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinar – may Allah be pleased with him- heard these words, he showed the person the same piece of paper which he had found near the Mimbar of the Masjid. The man screamed out that this was indeed the same piece of paper which he had himself placed inside the Kafan of the young man before burying him.

When the people heard this amazing story, one of the people present came towards Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinar – may Allah be pleased with him – and offered him two hundred thousand Dinaars so that the great Saint can also write the same guarantee for him. However, Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinar – may Allah be pleased with him – replied, “What was meant to happen has happened. Whatever Allah decrees, that will happen.”

It is said that whenever Hadrat Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinar – may Allah be pleased with him – used to remember the young man, he used to weep. (Roud Ar Riyaheen)
