In the Holy Qur’an it is mentioned that indeed in the example of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – you have the best of examples.

As Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – showed immense grief and concern for his Ummah, in like manner, he was also kind and jovial with his blessed companions. In the Hadith Shareef, the word used to describe his good behavior is “tabassum”. In other words, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – was always smiling at others. He never laughed out aloud as this was prohibited on him.

Even his blessed wife, Sayyidah Ayesha – may Allah be pleased with her – mentions that she never saw him laugh out aloud. The only thing he displayed when he was happy was a deep smile. Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Haarith – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that he never saw someone smile like Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. After Salaah as people walked with him and described certain events from the days of ignorance, he only smiled and never laughed aloud. Hadrat Sayyiduna Jabir – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that when others around him laughed, he only smiled.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Umaamah – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that he never saw someone with such a smiling face as Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. In other words, his entire being displayed warmth and kindness. (Ibn Asaakir)
