It is mentioned that once, the great Saint, Hadrat Sayyiduna Zun Nun Misri – may Allah be pleased with him – met a Saint in the mountains of Lebanon. The Saint was so old that the hair on his head and beard had turned white. He was also extremely frail and his clothes had also become old and tattered. When Hadrat Sayyiduna Zun Nun Misri – may Allah be pleased with him – appeared in front of him, he was busy in Salaah. When he completed the Salaah, the great Saint greeted him.

After replying to the Salaam, he continued his Salaah. He continued in this fashion until the time of Asr. He then placed his back on a rock and started to read the Tasbeeh. He did not speak but after a long time Hadrat Sayyiduna Zun Nun Misri – may Allah be pleased with him – asked him to make Du’a for him.

The Saint replied, “O my son! When Allah Almighty blesses someone with closeness, He gives him four gifts. Respect with family connection, knowledge without seeking it, wealth without money and love without company.”

After saying these words, he screamed and fell unconscious and remained in this fashion for three days. After this period, he awoke and performed his Wudu and asked Hadrat Sayyiduna Zun Misri – may Allah be pleased with him – how long he had been in this state and how many Salaah he had missed. After he had completed his missed Salaah, he began to walk away but Hadrat Sayyiduna Zun Nun Misri – may Allah be pleased with him – held his blessed shawl and said to him, “Hadrat, I have been in your company for three days and with the hope that you will give me some advice.”

The Saint replied, “Have love for Allah and do not accept a payment for this love. The reason is that, that person who is His real Aashiq, he is the leader of this world, a master among the Zaahids and one chosen by Allah Almighty. He becomes a friend of Allah and His real slave.”

Hadrat Sayyiduna Zun Nun Misri – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions, “He then screamed out aloud and fell to the floor and I realised that he had passed away. Suddenly from all parts of the mountain, I could other Saints arriving and everyone joined in his last burial rites.”

When he asked the name of this Saint, he was told that his name was Hadrat Sayyiduna Shaybaan Masaab – may Allah be pleased with him. (Roud Ar Riyaheen)
