Download PDF: [S] Trust placed in Allah
One day as Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar Radi Allahu ‘Anhu was sitting with his companions many people passed by. Suddenly, Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar Radi Allahu ‘Anhu noticed a person passing by with his son who looked identical to his father. The great leader called this person to him and asked, “O slave of Allah azza wajal, both of you are so identical that this does not even exist between two crows.” The person replied, “O Ameerul Mo’mineen! By Allah! He was given birth to by his mother after she had passed away!”
Hearing this shocking statement, Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar Radi Allahu ‘Anhu sat upright and asked him to explain the entire incident. He said, “I once decided to go on Jihad in the Path of Allah azza wajal, however my wife was heavily pregnant and the time of birth was very near. She then said to me, ‘I am as you can see heavily pregnant and I cannot even walk easily. In this state, in whose safety and protection are you leaving me in?’ I replied, ‘The child which is in your womb, I leave it in the Divine Protection of Allah azza wajal.’ I then left everything in the Divine Power of the Allah azza wajal and departed for Jihad. When I returned after some time, I noticed that the door of my house was locked. When I inquired further, I was told that my wife had died and that she was now under the Divine Mercy of the Allah azza wajal.
“I then visited her grave and sat a while at this place. At night, I retired to the house of my cousin living nearby this graveyard. During the night, while we sat together and spoke, I mentioned the piety and other good qualities of my wife to them. Her grave was also in front of us. Suddenly, I saw flames appearing from inbetween these graves and I asked my cousins about it. They replied that they had seen these flames appearing every night close to my wife’s grave. When I heard this, I decided that I will definitely open her grave to see what was happening. I then decided to dig the grave and what I saw was totally shocking. I saw that the grave was already opened and there was a small boy playing next to his dead mother. Suddenly a person said, ‘You had placed this child in the Divine Custody of Allah azza wajal and if you had placed your wife in the Divine Custody of Allah azza wajal also, she would have also being alive (as this child is still alive).’
“I then picked up the child and the grave closed on its own. O Ameerul Mo’mineen, this is the same child which you are seeing.”
Those who were present were extremely astonished at what they had listened to and obviously their trust and certainty in Allah azza wajal became more firm and steadfast. (Al Muhaasin wal Masaawi)
We should also bear in mind that there is a report which has been mentioned by Hadrat Sayyidina Abdullah ibn Umar Radi Allahu ‘Anhuma which explains that, “When any trust is placed in the Divine Custody of the Allah azza wajal, then He in His Divine Mercy protects that trust.” This is reported by Imam Bukhari Radi Allahu ‘Anhu and also found in the Sahih Baihaqi Shareef. This is also found in the Kashful Khifa, Hadith #678, and also the treatise, Man Haasha Ba’dal Maut (He who lives after death) by Imam Abu Bakr Abdullah bin Mohammed bin ‘Ubaid Al Qarashi also famously known as Ibn Abid Dunya Radi Allahu ‘Anhu.
