Hadrat Sayyiduna Mohamed bin Daud – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that he heard this from Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Fouti – may Allah be pleased with him – and Hadrat Sayyiduna Amar bin Aadimi – may Allah be pleased with him – who mentioned that, “Both of us used to love each other for the Divine Pleasure of Allah Almighty. One day, we travelled from Baghdad Shareef, (which is known as “Urusul Bilaad”) to Kufah. However, on the road, we noticed two dangerous animals that were blocking the road.
Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr then said to Hadrat Abu Amar, ‘O Abu Amar, age wise, I am older than you. You walk behind me and I will walk in front. If these animals decided to attack, they will attack me and you will be spared.’
Hadrat Abu Amar replied, ‘If I do this, then my inner self will never forgive me for this. I am not prepared to do something like this. Come let us walk together towards these animals and if they attack, then both of us will be harmed together.’ We then walked together towards these animals and besides attacking, they did not even move from their spot and allowed us to walk past freely.’
It is mentioned by the learned that this is the true meaning of friendship among Muslims that they never allow each other to be harmed in any manner whatsoever. (Uyunul Hikaayah)
