It is mentioned that Thursday night, Hadrat Duhaak bin Mazaahim – may Allah be pleased with him – left his home. It was in the city of Kufah and his intention was to go to the Jamia Masjid. As he entered the Masjid, he noticed a young man. When he looked carefully at the young man, he realised that this was indeed a Wali of Allah. He then approached the young man so that he could listen to what Du’a he was making. The young man was saying, “O Allah to whom all Respect and Status belongs to, I only have trust and hope in You. That person who makes You His trust, he indeed becomes blessed. Only that person has understood the value of time who has spent his night in fear of You. They bring their problems to their Creator Who is the Real Helper even though they are no sick or ill people. Their only intention is that the Divine Mercy of the Allah Almighty overshadows them. It is only Allah Almighty who listens to their pleas and calls.” The young man was continuing to utter these words.

While the young man was uttering these words, Hadrat Duhaak bin Mazaahim – may Allah be pleased with him – was also uttering the “Ameen” and shedding tears at this sincere Du’a. After that, the young man also mentioned a few other words. At that moment Hadrat Duhaak bin Mazaahim – may Allah be pleased with him – heard a Voice declare, “O My slave! I am present and you are in My protection and whatever you say, I am able to hear it. The Angels are also hearing your words as well and I have also pardoned your sins.”

Thereafter, Hadrat Duhaak – may Allah be pleased with him – greeted the young man and said to him, “May Allah give you Barakah in your nights and have Mercy on you! Who are you?”.

The young man replied that he was Rashid bin Sulyman. Hadrat Duhaak bin Mazaahim – may Allah be pleased with him – had already heard about the greatness of this young man and wanted to meet him for a long time. Now when he had the opportunity, he was extremely delighted.

He then asked the young man, “Can I also join your company?”

The young man replied, “How is this possible. When a person feels such tranquillity and peace when making Du’a to Allah Almighty in secret and privately, what need does he have of any human company? By Allah, if a true Aarif is able to see the people of today, he would come to the conclusion that these people certainly do not have certainty in the day of Judgement.”

After saying, the young disappeared. Hadrat Duhaak – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that he had no idea whether the earth had swallowed the young man or whether he had disappeared into the air. Hadrat Duhaak bin Mazaahim – may Allah be pleased with him – also mentions that he felt immense sorrow after seeing this and made Du’a to Allah in the following manner, “O Allah! Please allow me to meet him at least once before I leave this world.”

Hadrat Sayyiduna Duhaak – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that one year he went for Hajj and noticed the young man sitting in the shadow of the Ka’ba and there were others around him as well. These people were reciting surah Al Anam. When the young man saw Hadrat Duhaak – may Allah be pleased with him – he smiled. This was the behaviour and kindness of the Awliyah and ‘Ulama. He also embraced Hadrat Sayyiduna Duhaak – may Allah be pleased with him. He then said to him “It seems like the Du’a you made of meeting me once more before you pass away has been accepted. We must give thanks to Allah for this.”

Hadrat Duhaak bin Mazaahim – may Allah be pleased with him – then asked him what he had seen on the night they had met in the Jamia Masjid. When the young man heard this question, he fell to the ground unconscious. After a while he regained his senses and in the meantime, each of his companions also began to leave.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Duhaak – may Allah be pleased with him – then asked him who these people were who had recited the Holy Qur’an and were sitting around him. The young man replied that these were Jinn and because of an old relationship and connection, they displayed immense respect for him. He said that these people recite the Qur’an for him and also join him every year for the Hajj. The young man then said, “May Allah join me and you in Jannah in which there will be no separation and in which there will be no sadness and grief.” After saying this, the young man disappeared.
