Hadrat Sayyiduna Abul Hasan Darraaj – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:
I once made Haj with a certain caravan and joined them in their complete travel. Wherever they camped, I also camped and wherever they went I also joined them. The following year, I decided to go on my own. I then continued from city to city until I reached the city of Qaadisiyah. I entered a MASJID and saw a person near the Mimbar whose body was a riddled with scars from leprosy.
When he saw me, he asked, “O Abul Hasan! Are you intending to go for Hajj?”
When I heard his question I was extremely irritated that this person had actually addressed me. I was also extremely angry as well. I then mentioned that I was intending to go Hajj. He then asked me to take him with me. I then said to myself that this is indeed a great burden which has been placed on me. I have travelled with people who were fit and able for Hajj and now this person wants to travel with me. I then said that I was not prepared to keep him with me and he pleaded that I take him along.
He then said to me, “O Abul Hasan! Allah Almighty is able to give such strength to those who are disable, that even a fit person is shocked and surprised.”
I mentioned that he was right but I was not prepared to take him with me. I then read the Asr Salaah and departed.
In the morning when I arrived at a certain village, I saw that this person was already there. He then made Salaam to me and said, “O Abul Hasan! Allah Almighty is able to give such strength to those who are disable, that even a fit person is shocked and surprised.”
When I heard these words, I was extremely surprised. I then began to have serious thoughts about this person.
The next place I arrived in was a place called Qurr’a. When I entered the Masjid, I noticed that this same person was sitting next to the Mimbar. When he saw me, he stated, “O Abul Hasan! Allah Almighty is able to give such strength to those who are disable, that even a fit person is shocked and surprised.”
I then fell at his blessed feet and made sincere Taubah. He then asked me what had happened and I said that I had become guilty of a serious offence of showing him disrespect. However, he said to me that he took no offence and could not join me on this journey. But he did promise me that I would meet him at every place. With the Divine Grace of Allah Almighty, I was blessed with meeting this person at every stop. Finally, when we reached Madina Shareef, I did not meet him in this blessed city.
When I arrived in Mecca Shareef, I had the honour of meeting two eminent saints, namely Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Kattaani – may Allah be pleased with him – and Hadrat Sayyiduna Abul Hasan Muzayyin – may Allah be pleased with him. I then explained to them what had happened on my journey. When I had finished, they looked at me like I was an insane person and declared, “O stupid person! Are you aware of who that person was? He is the famous Saint of his era, Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Jafer Majzun – may Allah be pleased with him. We always made Du’a that we are able to be blessed by his company. The next time you meet him, please point him to us so that we can also be blessed by meeting him.”
I then travelled to Mina and Arafat but did not meet him. However, on the 10th of Zil Hajj while I was stoning the Jamaraat, I felt someone hold my shawl and when I turned around, I noticed that it was the same Saint. I then fell on the ground unconscious and when I regained my senses, I noticed that he was not there. When I arrived the Masjid-e-Kheef, I informed my friends of what happened.
One day after the farewell Tawaaf, I was standing at Maqaam-e-Ebrahim making Du’a when I heard someone say to me not to make a sound. When I turned around, it was the same Saint. I then asked him to make Du’a for me and he said that I should make Du’a and he would repeat the ‘Ameen’. I then made Du’a and after every Du’a, he said ‘Ameen’.
Later on, when someone asked me what Du’a I had made. I mentioned that I had made three Du’as.
- The first Du’a which I made was that Allah Almighty must make the state of poverty and Faqr more beloved to me than anything else in the world.
- The second Du’a which I made was that I must never hoard anything in the evening for the next morning.
- The third Du’a which I made was that Allah Almighty through His Infinite Mercy must also include me in the ranks of the Awliya when they are able see His Divine Vision on the Day of Judgement.
Hence, I have absolute certainty that all of these Du’as have been accepted in the Divine Court of Allah Almighty because these Du’as were stamped by the ‘Ameen’ of a Saint. There is no doubt that the Awliya of Allah are those blessed creation whose ‘Ameen’ is never rejected in the Court of the Allah Almighty. There is no doubt that since the Awliya spend their every moment in the Ibadah of Allah Almighty, they are people who are very special. At the same time, even though they may look like their hands are empty, yet, in their empty hands in the wealth of the entire universe. Therefore, those who belittle the Awliya are doing nothing but endangering their life in the world and in the Hereafter. It is only the Ahle Sunnah wa Jamaah which displays such respect for the Awliya.
This same person also explains that when this Saint made Du’a for him, for nearly one year, he never had the need to keep anything for the next day. Whatever he spent on that day, the next day, all of it was again found in his house. Such is the greatness of the Awliya.
