It is reported that once, Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – was delivering a Khutbah and he mentioned, “I swear by Allah that when we took allegiance with Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and I had placed a piece of cloth over my head, I could not find myself removing it out of humility for Allah Almighty.”

In another report, that when Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – climbed on the Mimbar, he began to weep and then declared, “When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – climbed the Mimbar in the first year, he also wept and then declared, ‘Seek forgiveness from Allah and seek prosperity and success because after Imaan no one has been given something better than this. And make it necessary upon yourself to speak the truth. The reason is that speaking is part of goodness and both of these will allow a person to enter Jannah. And protect yourself from lies because (lies are part) of destruction and both of these will lead you into the Fire of Hell. Do not be envious of one another and do not have enmity, do not break relationship because you are the servants of Allah and are brothers one of another.’” (Ibn Habban, Tirmidi Shareef, Nisaa’i, Imam Ahmed, Haakim, Hayaat As Sahaabah)
