Download PDF: Muslim Lady corrects the Qadi

There was a Qadi that whenever he had any doubt on any witness, he used to question them separately.

On one occasion, there was an issue pertaining to a Muslim case and the witnesses were one male and two females. As per his normal procedure, he wanted to separate the two females. However, one of the females said, “You have made a mistake because Allah Almighty has stated that one should remind the other. When you separate us, this would not be achieved which is the requirement of Shari’ah.” When the Qadi heard this, he became speechless.

Allah Almighty states in Surah Baqarah, verse 283:

And if you are on a journey, and you find not a scribe then let there be pledge with possession. And if in between you one entrusts the other, then let he whom he trusted deliver his trust and fear Allah, Who is his Lord; and conceal not evidence; and whosoever would conceal evidence, then his heart is sinful from inside, and Allah knows your deeds.

In this verse, Allah Almighty has prescribed one male and two females or two men. When , Allah Almighty speaks about two females He also mentions that when one forgets, the other can be reminded. The lady reminded the Qadi of this.

There is no doubt that there is Barakah in abundance in religious knowledge. Through knowledge, one person becomes greater than the next. As for a Jaahil, he is always someone who is looked upon with hardly any respect and looked down upon.

As for this lady who made the Qadi speechless clearly shows that she was someone who had Islamic knowledge. There is no doubt that when a Muslim female has Islamic knowledge, she is able to influence others. As for that Muslim female who does not possess this Islamic knowledge, she can only look and wonder at others. At the same time, it is also a good habit that one should remain silent in front of those who are learned.

There are many reasons that a person remains ignorant. They are:

  1. A person leaves the company of the learned and remains in the company of the Jaahils.
  2. A person does not read religious material.
  3. A person does not attend religious functions.
  4. A person learns, but does not teach others.
  5. A person considers Islamic knowledge a burden.
  6. A person is unaware of the merits of Islamic knowledge.
  7. A person is in the habit of only speaking of useless things.
  8. A person has no time to revise what she had learnt.
  9. A person is in the habit of only thinking of bad and evil things.

Muslim sisters should make it a habit of always increasing their Islamic knowledge.

We find that many Muslim sisters find time during the day to spend watching movies or some drama on TV. When they are called for Islamic education, it is like a major burden for them. In the past, Muslim sisters were beacons of guidance and learning, but this has completely changed in the present times. If we look at the example of Sayyidah Ayesha Radi Allahu ‘Anhu, we will see that she was one of the most learned females in Islamic history. As a matter of fact, not only males, but also females used to come to her for Islamic guidance.
