Download PDF: Mother_s resolve to meet Son in Hereafter
Hadrat Sheikh Sayed Abdul Qaadir Jilani Radi Allahu ‘Anhu narrates an incident from his youth. He narrates:
“Once on the 9th of Zil-Hajj, I was walking towards a village. A cow came from behind and said to me, ‘O Abdul Qaadir, where are you going?’ When I heard this voice, I became disturbed and I began to run and then climbed on the roof of the house. While I was on the roof, I was able to see people on the Plains of Arafat. I then came down from the roof and approached my blessed mother and said to her, ‘Please give me permission so that I can now continue to seek knowledge for the sake of Allah Almighty.’
“My mother then asked me the sudden reason for this. I revealed the entire incident which had taken place. When she heard this, she began to weep and went into the room and returned with eighty Dinaars. She then said, ‘Your father had left this as inheritance for you and forty Dinaars is for your brother.’ She then sewed the forty Dinaars in my waistcoat. When she bid me farewell, she made me promise that I would never speak lies. She then said, ‘Go, we will now meet on the Day of Qiyamah.’” (Zubdatul Athaar, 13)
Lesson
There is no doubt that the pious Muslims are always fully aware of the reasons for what they have come to this world. At the same time, many symbols and signs are shown to them. This proves to them that they have not come to this world for comfort, pleasure or to fulfil their carnal desires.
In Surah Mulk, verse 2, the Qur’an declares:
الَّذِیۡ خَلَقَ الْمَوْتَ وَ الْحَیٰوۃَ لِیَبْلُوَکُمْ اَیُّکُمْ اَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا ؕ وَ ہُوَ الْعَزِیۡزُ الْغَفُوۡرُۙ﴿۲﴾
He, Who has created death and life that He might test you, as to whose work is excellent among you. And He is the Esteemed one, the Forgiving.
In Surah Zaariyat, verse 56, the Qur’an declares:
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَ الْاِنۡسَ اِلَّا لِیَعْبُدُوۡنِ ﴿۵۶﴾
And I have created the Jinn and the men only for this that they may worship Me.
This is the reason that they were not distracted from anything. Even their children could not be a source of distraction for them. They used to strangle their carnal desires and made sure that they fully followed and supported Islam.
The above incident also indicates to us the importance of seeking Islamic knowledge. Without knowledge it is very difficult to prepare for the Hereafter. One also has to travel to achieve such blessed knowledge. When a person goes out to seek knowledge keeping away from family and friends at the same time is certainly a very testing time.
However, the blessed mother of Hadrat Ghous Paak Radi Allahu ‘Anha did not in any way become an obstacle in this regard. At the same time, bear in mind that she was nearly eighty years old and Hadrat Ghous Paak Radi Allahu ‘Anhu was only eighteen. She also knew that the road ahead was extremely difficult and there were many dangers on the road. She also knew that this was the last time she would see her beloved son in this world.
Certainly, our Muslim sisters should learn a lesson from the eminent example of this blessed mother. They should always bear in mind that they should not be oblivious of the Hereafter and also not to become an obstacle to anyone who chooses this path. There is no doubt that if one fashions one’s life in this manner, one will be with those who are the beloved of Allah Almighty on the Day of Judgement.
The Holy Prophet May Allah send peace and blessings upon him has stated that, “He who impersonates a nation, he is from among that nation.” (Mishkaat Shareef)
We make Du’a that Allah Almighty also blesses our Muslim sisters with this type of zeal and dedication to Islam. Aameen.
