Hadrat Sayyiduna Ebrahim Teemi – may Allah be pleased with him – is considered as one of the most eminent Muslims in the Taaba’een period. He has also mentioned that when you see someone who is lazy at the moment of Takbeer ‘Ula, in other words, this person does not come on time for Salaah, then you should give up on this person. Do not even waste your time and effort in trying to rectify him.
Among his students, there were also eminent scholars such as Imam Mansur bin Mu’tamir – may Allah be pleased with him.
Imam ‘Amash – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that he once asked Hadrat Sayyiduna Ebrahim Teemi – may Allah be pleased with him, “I heard that at times, you do not eat for nearly a month.”
He replied, “Yes, in fact, sometimes I eat nothing for two months in a row. In fact, until now I had not eaten anything for the past forty days. As a matter of fact, my wife had placed a grape in my mouth but after she had left I had thrown away the grape without even enjoying any part of the juice from the grape.”
Even his passing away was a miracle in itself. The tyrant Hujjaj bin Yusuf had ordered his soldiers to capture Imam Ebrahim Nakh’i – may Allah be pleased with him – but in mistake, they captured Hadrat Sayyiduna Ebrahim Teemi – may Allah be pleased with him. Hadrat Sayyiduna Ebrahim Teemi – may Allah be pleased with him – spent some time in jail and after a while Hujjaj ordered that he be placed in an open area so that he could suffer from the hot burning sun. He did not live very long after this and passed away in 99 A.H.
It is mentioned that when Hadrat Sayyiduna Ebrahim Teemi – may Allah be pleased with him – passed away someone shouted to Hujjaj in a dream that he should go and look because today, he had certainly been responsible for killing a genuine Jannati. When Hujjaj found out from his guards he was told that on the same night Hadrat Sayyiduna Ebrahim Teemi – may Allah be pleased with him – had passed away.
In other words, this idiot was in the habit of killing so many innocent people that he had lost count of who had been killed. The number of people who were killed by Hujjaj runs into thousands. One of the greatest tragedy with people of this nature and other oppressors of their era is that that they have completely forgotten that they will also die. They can see that so many people are dying in front of them, but still they refuse to believe that they will also die.
The Satan has completely closed their heart, ears and eyes to common logic and intelligence. Today, when we see the oppression which is happening on the Muslims, we can see that the oppressor has fallen in the same trap of the Satan.
Another oppressive form of behaviour is also committed by the Muslims who remain silent and merely discuss among themselves what oppression is been committed and do nothing about it.
Talk is certainly cheap and if everyone only talks, no problems of the world will ever be sorted. It is therefore important that Muslims should plan a way forward to help the oppressed no matter which religion they belong to. There is no pardah or veil between an oppressed person and his Creator.
