It is reported that once the Bani Ash’ar (which comprised of Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Moosa and Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Amir – may Allah be pleased with them) decided to travel to see the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.

However, during their journey, their goods became depleted and whatever food they had was also depleted. They then sent one of their companions to the blessed court of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – to see whether they could ask the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – for something on their journey. When the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – heard this request, he recited to this person the 6th verse of Surah Hud (11) which is:

وَمَا مِنۡ دَآبَّۃٍ فِی الۡاَرْضِ اِلَّا عَلَی اللہِ رِزْقُہَا وَیَعْلَمُ مُسْتَقَرَّہَا وَ مُسْتَوْدَعَہَا ؕکُلٌّ فِیۡ کِتٰبٍ مُّبِیۡنٍ ﴿۶﴾

“And there is none that walks upon the earth whose sustenance does not depend on the mercy of Allah – He knows where it shall stay and where it shall be deposited; everything is in a clearly explaining Book.”

When this emissary heard this, he was convinced that the sustenance for the Bani Ash’ar was also something which would be sent by Allah Almighty and therefore he returned convinced to his people. When he returned, he mentioned to his people that certainly their sustenance would arrive very soon from Allah Almighty.

These people were also under the impression that this emissary of theirs had actually conveyed their request to the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. While these people were waiting, suddenly two people arrived in their camp. They were carrying a large tray of food in which there was ample amount of meat and bread. Everyone ate as much as he could and after this someone among them declared, “Return the balance of this food to the blessed court of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.”

These people then returned to the blessed court of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and presented this food. They said, “O Prophet of Allah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – the food which you had sent to us was something which we had never tasted before. It was extremely delicious and tasty.”

However, when the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – heard this, he replied, “I had not sent any food towards you people?”

After questioning their emissary, he also confirmed that he had not asked any food from the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.

Thereafter, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – declared, “This was that sustenance which was sent to your people by Allah Almighty and which you had consumed and enjoyed.” (Nawaadir Al Qalyubi)
