Hadrat Sayyiduna Urwah – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that Hakeem bin Hizaam once went to Yemen and purchased a very refined piece of jubbah which used to be worn by the Kings of that region. He then presented this as a gift to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – prior to accepting Islam.

However, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – refused to accept this gift and mentioned that he did not accept gifts from Mushriks. He then went to the market and sold this Jubbah. When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – heard about this, he ordered that the Jubbah be purchased. After the Jubbah was purchased for him, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then wore this Jubbah and entered the Masjid.

Hakeem mentions that he had never ever seen someone look so handsome as Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – after he had worn this Jubbah. It appeared as if the fourteenth night moon had suddenly appeared in front of them. Hakeem mentions that when he saw this amazing sight, he could not control himself and uttered the following words spontaneously. He declared, “What can a person who orders, order after this when such light has been revealed. He is someone whose face, hands and feet glisten with brightness. When one sees him carefully, his nobility increases even more. It appears as if pure and clean water has been poured over him.”

It is reported that when Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – heard these words, he smiled.

In another report it is mentioned that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had actually purchased this from Hakeem and then gave it to Hadrat Sayyiduna Usaamah – may Allah be pleased with him – as gift. (Ibn Jareer and Haakim from the Kanz; Hayaat As Sahaabah).
