It is mentioned that while the Ashaab were digging the trench around Madina Shareef a heavy rock or boulder was found. They called Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – for help.
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had such immense hunger that he had actually tied some stones on his blessed stomach. In spite of this immense hunger, whenever Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – hit the rock or boulder in front of him, it broke into pieces.
Hadrat Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions, “When I noticed the state of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – I was besides myself. I then went to my wife and asked her whether there was anything in the house to eat. She mentioned that there was a small goat which was younger than a year and about four kilos of barley.”
Hadrat Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah – may Allah be pleased with him – then slaughtered the goat while his wife prepared the dough.
He then approached Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and quietly mentioned to him that he should come to the house of Jabir with a few companions. When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – heard these words, he turned to all the Muslims who were busy digging the trench and said to them, “O people! Jabir has invited you for food. Come let us go.”
There were thousands of Ashaab who were present on this occasion. In fact, these blessed souls were themselves in a state of hunger for many days but were still digging the trench without uttering a word of complaint. When they heard the blessed words of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – all of them joined Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and they walked to the house of Hadrat Sayyiduna Jabir – may Allah be pleased with him. At the lead was Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.
The blessed companion further states, “There is no doubt that at that moment I felt extreme embarrassment. I kept thinking that the food was just sufficient for a few people and yet, there are hundreds of Ashaab who are walking towards my house. How will I be able to cater for so many of them? In this state of panic and concern, I rushed to my house and mentioned the entire thing to my wife. When my wife heard this, she was extremely calm and collected and mentioned to me that I should not be concerned because these people were actually the guest of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and he would take care of them.”
The first person to enter the house of Hadrat Sayyiduna Jabir – may Allah be pleased with him – was Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – himself. He then asked, “O Jabir! Where is the meat?” Hadrat Sayyiduna Jaber – may Allah be pleased with him – replied that all the meat was in a pot. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then asked where the dough was. When this was presented to him, he mentioned that it should be covered in a cloth and then prepared. He also placed a little of his blessed saliva in the pot after reading the “Bismillah”. He also covered the pot.
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then declared, “O Jabir! call ten people at a time to eat.”
The blessed companions then entered ten at a time and ate as much as they could. After this, they left and another group entered. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – also sat next to the pot and continued to give these people the meat from the pot. When all of the blessed Ansaar and Muhaajir had completed eating, the meat in the pot was still the same. Nothing was short or less in the pot from the first moment it was prepared. Even the dough which was used to prepare the bread was the same amount. This was indeed a miracle or Mo’jizah of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. This was a Divine Help of Allah Almighty which descended upon the Muslims through the blessed being of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.
Finally, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – called Hadrat Sayyiduna Jabir – may Allah be pleased with him – and said to him, “O Jabir! Call your family to eat and also give some food to the neighbours as well.”
Hadrat Sayyiduna Jabir – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions, “As I drew near, I saw the blessed face of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and he was saying, ‘I am indeed the Messenger of Allah.’ I also happily declared, ‘I also bear witness that indeed you are the Messenger of Allah.’”
The blessed companion mentions that they also sent food and bread to their neighbours and they also enjoyed the food as the rest of the companions had enjoyed this blessed food. (Sahih Bukhari)
