Download PDF: [S] Seeks Pardon for His Ummah
Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had made special Du’a of pardon in abundance for his Ummah on the occasion of Arafat. Allah Almighty had also informed him that He had accepted whatever was asked for but He had not pardoned the oppression of some people against others. However, whatever sin was between the creation and the Creator, He had pardoned those sins.
The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then said, “O Allah! There is no doubt that You have the power to bestow reward upon that person who had been oppressed in exchange for his oppression and You have the power to pardon the oppressor”.
In that evening, this Du’a was not accepted.
When the morning of Muzdalifah appeared, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – again made the same Du’a. Allah Almighty accepted the Du’a and also declared, “Without doubt, I have also pardoned the oppressor as well.”
The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then smiled.
The blessed companions asked him the reason for his smile and he replied, “I am smiling at the enemy of Allah, namely Satan. When he came to know that my Du’a for the Ummah had been accepted by Allah, he started to scream and shout in regret and placed sand over his head again in regret.” (Hayaat As Sahaabah)
