Download PDF: [S] He Refused to accept the False Prophet

It is mentioned that when Hadrat Sayyiduna Habeeb bin Zaid bin Asim – may Allah be pleased with him – was mentioned in front of Hadrat Sayyiduna Ka’ab bin Ahbaar – may Allah be pleased with him, bearing in mind that this was someone from the Bani Hawazin bin Najaar and who had been martyred in the Battle of Yamaamah fighting against the Musaylimah the liar, the blessed companion explained, “I swear by Allah that this Habeeb is like that Habeeb who is mentioned in Surah Yaseen.”

It is mentioned that when the liar Musaylimah had asked Hadrat Sayyiduna Habeeb – may Allah be pleased with him – about the Prophethood of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – the latter had clearly testified to this. Musaylimah also asked him to testify to his so-called “prophethood,” Hadrat Sayyiduna Habeeb – may Allah be pleased with him – mentioned that he could not hear these words. When Hadrat Sayyiduna Habeeb – may Allah be pleased with him – was asked about the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – he replied that he accepted him to be the true Prophet.

The cursed Musaylimah then shouted that he was able to hear something which pertained to the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – but could not hear something which pertained to him. Hadrat Sayyiduna Habeeb – may Allah be pleased with him – was asked and again he gave the same answer. One limb was then cut from his body. Each time, this question was asked, he refused to acknowledge Musaylimah and each time, another limb was chopped off. Finally, Hadrat Sayyiduna Habeeb – may Allah be pleased with him – was martyred.

However, right until his last moment on earth, Hadrat Sayyiduna Habeeb – may Allah be pleased with him – continued to testify to the truth of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.

This incident is mentioned in “Al Isti’aab fi Ma’rifat Al Ashaab” by Haafizul Hadith, Abu ‘Umar Yusuf bin Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Abdul Barr – may Allah be pleased with him.
