Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:

Once the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – declared, “My Ummah was presented to me and (prior to this). I noticed a Prophet and with him there were a few people. There was another Prophet and with him there were only one or two people. There was another Prophet and with him, there were no one. Suddenly a large group of people appeared in front of me and I thought that perchance this was my Ummah but I was informed that this was Nabi Moosa – peace be upon him – and his nation (the Bani Israel).

I was then informed to look on the other side and I noticed an ever larger group of people. I was then informed that this is my Ummah and that among these people there are seventy thousand such people who will enter Jannah without accountability.” (After saying, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – awoke and returned to his blessed room).

While he was away, the blessed Ashaab began to discuss on who these special people would be. Some mentioned that it indicated to those people who had been blessed with the company of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. Some mentioned that perhaps it was those people who had been born Muslims and did not associate any partners with Allah. In this manner, each one presented his own explanation.

At that moment, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – appeared and asked them “What were you people discussing among yourselves?”

The blessed companions mentioned to him whatever they were discussing prior to his arrival. He then mentioned that among these people were those who did not falsely blow on people (based on fraud excuses, etc.) and they were people who relied on the Allah Almighty in all their needs.

At that moment, Hadrat Sayyiduna Ukaashah – may Allah be pleased with him – stood up and said, “O Prophet of Allah! Please make Du’a that Allah Almighty includes me among these people.”

The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him –replied, “You are certainly among these people.”

Another person then stood up and also asked that he be included among these people. However, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – declared that Hadrat Sayyiduna Ukaashah had taken precedence over him. (Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Musnad Imam Ahmed, Abu Ya’la, Al Hakim etc.).
