Download PDF: [S] Du’a through the Names of Allah

Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar bin Thabit Basri – may Allah be pleased with him – writes:

Once someone in Basrah suffered a great calamity. It is said that a stone had entered his ear and in spite of the efforts of the doctors, they failed to remove the stone. In fact, the stone began to go deeper into the skull of the person and this caused immense pain and stress. The person could not sleep or rest and he was terribly traumatised.

At that time, one of the companions of Hadrat Sayyiduna Hasan Basri – may Allah be pleased with him – happen to arrive in Basrah. This person then approached him and revealed his problem. When the Saint heard about this person’s problem, he said to him, “It is easy to remove your problem. If you wish to remove this problem then you should make Du’a through the same words which was used by Hadrat Sayyiduna Alaa bin Hadrami – may Allah be pleased with him. When he made Du’a in the barren wild and in front of the ocean, his Du’a was accepted. Therefore, I suggest that you also make Du’a in those words.”

When the person asked him what these words were, he mentioned that one should make Du’a using the Divine Names of Allah which were “Aliyu, Aleemu, Haleemu and Azeemu”. As soon as the person made Du’a using these Divine Names, the stone fell on the floor and finally, the person felt relief.

Allama ibn Hajr Asqalani – may Allah be pleased with him – explains that the actual name of this Saint was Abdullah bin Imaad bin Akbar bin Rabee’ah bin Malik bin Auf Hadrami – may Allah be pleased with him. He was also a blessed companion of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had once nominated him as the Governor of Bahrain. He also continued in this position during the time of Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him. (Uyunul Hikaayah)
