Hadrat Sayyiduna Suqya Asbahi – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that once when he entered Madina Shareef he noticed a large group of people surrounding someone. When he inquired who this person was, he was told that this was Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah – may Allah be pleased with him.
I also sat in front of him and he was mentioning a few Ahadith to people. When he remained silent, I asked him, “I ask you in the Divine Name of Allah Almighty to mention to me such a hadith Shareef which you have heard from Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and have understood its message.”
He mentioned that he will certainly mention this to me. He suddenly screamed and fell unconscious. When he regained consciousness, he mentioned to me, “I will reveal such a Hadith to you which I heard from Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and that time, besides the two us, there was no third person.”
However, again the blessed companion screamed out aloud and became unconscious. This also occurred a third time and it was close to his face reaching the ground when I grabbed him and gave him support. I continued to give him support for a long period and after he had regain his full senses, he mentioned that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had stated that, “On the Day of Judgement, Allah Almighty will begin to decide among people. At that time, everyone will be on their knees. The first people that will be called forward will be three people. The first will be a Qari, the second will be a martyr and the third will be a wealthy person. The Allah Almighty will ask the Qari, ‘Did I not teach you the Book which I had revealed on My Messenger?’ The person will reply, ‘Why not, indeed, O Allah.’ The Allah Almighty will him, ‘Did you practise on what you had been taught?’ The person will reply, ‘I used to recite it day and night.’ Allah Almighty will declare, ‘You are speaking a lie’. In like manner, the Angels will also call him a liar. Allah Almighty will then declare, ‘The only reason that you used to do this was because people will say that a certain person is a Qari. They had called you this.’
“The rich person will then be called forward. Allah Almighty will ask him, ‘Did I not give you so much of wealth that you were not in need of anyone?’ The rich person will affirm this. Allah Almighty will then ask him, ‘What did you do with the wealth which I had given you?’ The person will reply, ‘I had been kind to my relatives and used to give charity.’ Allah Almighty will declare, ‘You are a liar’ and the Angels will also call him a liar. Allah Almighty will then declare, ‘You wanted that people call you a generous person and this was told of you.’
“The martyr will then be brought forward. Allah Almighty will ask him, ‘Why were you killed?’ The person will reply, ‘You had commanded me to fight on Your Path and I continued to fight until I was killed.’ Allah Almighty will declare to him, ‘Your intention was that people would consider you a brave person and this is what happened.’
The blessed companion then continued, “Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then slapped me on my thigh and said, ‘O Abu Hurayrah, these are the first three people with whom the flames of Hell will increased.’”
It is mentioned that once a person appeared in front of Hadrat Sayyiduna Ameer Mu’awiyah – may Allah be pleased with him – and mentioned the same Hadith Shareef. The blessed Muslim remarked that if this is the state of these three people, what will be the state of others. After that, Hadrat Sayyiduna Ameer Mu’awiyah – may Allah be pleased with him – wept so much that people thought he would actually pass away. People also thought that this person had brought bad news to the leader of the Muslims.
When Hadrat Sayyiduna Ameer Mu’awiyah – may Allah be pleased with him – had regained his senses, he mentioned that indeed Allah Almighty and His beloved Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had spoken the truth when they mentioned these words.
These words are to be found in Surah Hud (11) verses 15 to 17 which are:
“Whoever desires the life of this world and its comforts, We shall give them the full reward for their deeds in it, and not make any reduction in it. These are the ones for whom there is nothing in the Hereafter except the Fire; and all that they did there has gone to waste and all their deeds are destroyed. So is (equal to) the one who is upon the clear proof from his Lord, and comes a witness upon it from Allah, and before it the Book of Moosa, a leader and a mercy; they accept faith in it; and whoever denies it from all the groups, then the fire is promised for him; so O listener, do not have any doubt concerning it; indeed it is the truth from your Lord; but most people do not believe.” (Sahih Tirmidhi, Haakim)
