Download PDF: [S] The Justice of the Holy Prophet
There are numerous instances of justice and equality which can be presented from the blessed life of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. We will present just a few of them:
- Even though the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – was requested by the blessed Ashaab to free his own uncle Hadrat Abbas – may Allah be pleased with him – without any ransom after the Battle of Badr, he refused and treated him as any other prisoner.
- He used to accept the invitation of every person whether that person was poor or rich.
- The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – used to also share in their hunger and if some of them had one stone tied to his stomach due to extreme hunger, he had two stones tied to his blessed stomach.
- He used to also go around collecting firewood with the other Ashaab.
- If anyone was sick, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – used to treat everyone equally.
- This was applicable when it came to him performing the Janazah Salaah of anyone. He never saw whether the person was rich or poor.
- In spite of the various requests from other more powerful and influential people, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – requested Hadrat Bilal – may Allah be pleased with him – to climb on the roof of the Ka’ba to sound the Azaan.
- A few days before he could leave this world, he nominated Hadrat Usaamah bin Zaid – may Allah be pleased with him – to lead an army against Musaylimah Khazzab. After the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – had passed away, people requested that the leadership of this army be changed because the commander was very young, but Hadrat Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – refused to accede to this and kept Hadrat Usaamah bin Zaid – may Allah be pleased with him – as the rightful leader of this army. It must be borne in mind that Hadrat Zaid – may Allah be pleased with him – was once a slave.
- Once someone presented the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – with some milk and after drinking his share, he passed the bowl to a poor Bedouin that was sitting on his right (as per Shari’ah law) in spite of the fact that Hadrat Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – was sitting next to him.
- In one narration it is mentioned that once many eminent companions were sitting with the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and some milk was presented. After he drank his share, there was a young boy sitting on his right and he asked the young boy whether he could pass the milk to these eminent Ashaab before him. The young man refused and when he did so, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – passed the milk to this young man. On another occasion, he first allowed nearly seventy companions to drink from a small bowl of milk before he could drink. This is also considered one of his many miracles where seventy Ashaab drank from a small bowl of milk which had sufficient milk for only one person!
- While travelling to Badr, since there were so few camels, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – allowed another companion to ride this camel half way while the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – walked himself.
