Download PDF: [S] She Treated Another Muslim Alike
After the Battle of Badr, Hadrat Sayyidah Bibi Safiyah – may Allah be pleased with her – brought two pieces of cloth to cover the body of her blessed brother, Hadrat Sayyiduna Ameer Hamza – may Allah be pleased with him. However, when she approached her blessed brother, she found that next to him there was also the naked body of another Ansaari who had also been martyred.
She immediately felt great shame that her blessed brother be buried with these two pieces of cloth while the Ansaari is left in this state. At the same time, when they measured the bodies, they found that the body of the Ansaari was taller. They then took lots and buried each with the material which was chosen on their names. (Mishkaat Shareef, 140)
These were those blessed people who did not allow their own Nafs and personal wishes to come in between what they were taught by the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. They were not people who thought only about themselves and no one else. In fact, they always practised upon the blessed advice of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – wherein he stated that, “Your Imaan is not complete until you do not choose for your Muslim brother what you choose for yourself.” (Mishkaat Shareef)
This action of the blessed lady highlights the message of this Hadith Shareef. We should also make this a habit of ours in our homes and outside our homes. When we see other Muslims, we should also behave in this manner. In this manner, we will eliminate major problems and attain immense reward.
For example, if we intend to backbite about someone, we should ponder a while and imagine if the person was backbiting about us. We would not like that? How can we like this for another Muslim? At the same time, if you insist on doing this, then how can you say that you are a complete Muslim according to the words of the Hadith Shareef? However, when the message of this Hadith Shareef is instilled in your heart, then surely, you will become more cautious and careful on how you treat other Muslims.
