Hadrat Sayyiduna Umar bin Waasil – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that once someone asked Hadrat Sayyiduna Sahl – may Allah be pleased with him – the following question, “O Abu Mohammed! Are there such Saints in this world whose spend the morning in Basrah and the evening in Mecca Shareef. Is this something which is true?”

He replied, “Yes, there is no doubt that there are such servants of Allah Almighty in this world. In fact while they are sleeping and when they turn on the other side, they can go wherever they wish.”

He then remained silent for a few minutes and then explained, “Do you not see that when a king becomes close to one of his subjects who is brave, honest and sincere, this king also gives him the key to his safe and this person then has the authority to spend how he wishes. In like manner, when these Saints reach a very high state in the Divine Court of the Almighty Allah, they are given immense power to do whatever they wish.”

It is reported from Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Kataani – may Allah be pleased with him – from a few other Saints that, “It is reported that the brother of Hadrat Sayyiduna Jafer Deenawari – may Allah be pleased with him – used to live in some village in Syria. He never spent more than one night or day in any village. However, one day, he arrived in a certain village and became very ill. He remained like this for seven days. No one in the village even came to take care of him and no one even presented him with any food or drink. On the eight night, he passed away from hunger and thirst. In the morning, the people in the village found his body. They then made Ghusal for him and started to prepare for his Janazah. As they walked along with the Janazah, they found the people from all the neighbouring villages also appearing for this Janazah. These people also informed them, ‘Tonight, we heard a voice from the heavens declare to us, ‘If anyone of you wishes to take part in the Janazah of one of Allah’s friend, he should go to a certain village.’ After hearing this voice, we all decided to come to this village and take part in this Janazah.’

“They then buried this Saint and all of them returned to their villages thereafter. In the morning, after the Fajr Salaah, the people in the Masjid found the same kafan, which they had wrapped around this Saint, near the Mimbar. There was a note. On this note it was written, ‘There was a friend of Allah Almighty who was among you people for seven days and he was hungry, thirsty and also sick. Yet, none of you had the decency to ask him about his state and none of you even treated him when he was sick. Therefore, we have no need for your kafan and because of this, we have returned the kafan back to you people.”

When the people read this note, they were highly embarrassed and they then decided to build a special Musaafir Khana and a special area for all those travellers visiting the village. (Uyunul Hikaayah).

Gather good deeds as quick as possible.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ziyad – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates that, “I heard Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Attar – may Allah be pleased with him – say that, ‘Just before the great Saint, Hadrat Sayyiduna Junaid Baghdadi – may Allah be pleased with him – could pass away, he was reading Salaah even though he was extremely weak and frail. In fact, both of his feet were also paralysed. While in Sajdah and Ruku, he actually had to lift one of his feet and in this way, he suffered from a lot of pain. The people then said to the Saint him that if he sat on the bed and performed his Salaah, there would be no harm. However, he kept saying to people that this was his final moments and he wanted that it be spent in the Ibadah of Allah Almighty. He also mentioned to them that he would never get the opportunity to perform this again and when these are his final moments, he wanted to spend it in this fashion. He then read the ‘Allahu Akbar’ aloud and his soul was taken away. He also mentioned that now that his books of deeds are about to close, there was no one more in need of good deeds than himself.”

Such are the examples of these great Saints that their every breath was spent in serving creation and serving the Almighty Allah. But it is sad that people seem to listen these amazing examples through one ear and allow it to exit from the other ear.
