One of the greatest students of Imam A’zam – may Allah be pleased with him – was a person named Yazeed bin Harun Wusta – may Allah be pleased with him. Pertaining to him, Hadrat Ali bin Mudaini – may Allah be pleased with him – states that, “I have never seen someone such a master Haafiz of the Hadith as this person.”
Yazeed bin Harun Wusta – may Allah be pleased with him – used to be famous for his immense Ibadah. It is also mentioned that his eyes were considered as extremely good looking, but because of his immense weeping in the Divine Court of the Allah Almighty, he even lost his vision. He was also considered as one of those eminent people who had performed the Fajr Salaah with the ‘Isha Wudu over a number of years. He continued to teach Ahadith in the city of Baghdad Shareef for a number of years and then returned to his homeland where he passed away. Yazeed bin Harun Wusta – may Allah be pleased with him – passed away either in 206 or 271 A.H. (Tadkiratul Huffaaz)
Whether these eminent scholars were scholars of Ahadith, scholars of Qur’an or merely known as Sufis of their era, they are certainly people remembered as those who displayed immense humility and fear in the Divine Court of Allah Almighty. This was something which was clearly shown to everyone by the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – himself. It is reported that the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – used to stand in the Divine Court of the Allah Almighty to such a degree that his blessed feet used to become swollen.
In the Hadith Shareef it is mentioned that, “He who remembers Allah Almighty while he is alone and also weeps (in this time), Allah Almighty will grace him with the Shadow of the Arsh on that Day in which there will exist no other shadow but the Shadow of His Divine Mercy.”
It may seem to be merely a tear, yet, in the eyes of the true Awliya, this is actually an ocean which is been revealed. It also wipes away an ocean of sin and transgression. Those Muslims who are blessed with this attribute are certainly people who are highly blessed. How fortunate is the Saint which we have just mentioned in that he lost his vision due to this immense weeping for the fear of Allah Almighty.
