Imam Tabarani – may Allah be pleased with him – has recorded in his Awsat from Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with them – who narrates:

 

I was walking along the area of Badr and suddenly a person appeared from a hole around whose neck there was a large chain. He then called out to me, “O Abdullah! Please give me water.”

 

Suddenly another person appeared from the same hole in whose hand there was a whip and he said to me, “O Abdullah! Never give this person water because he is a Kaafir.”

 

After saying this, this person then whipped this person and through this whipping, he again fell into the hole. When I returned to Madina Shareef, I approached the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and informed him about what I had seen. When he heard this, the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – mentioned, “You have seen him.” And I replied, “Yes, I had seen him.” He declared, “This was the enemy of Allah, Abu Jahl. Until the Day of Judgement, he will be in this state receiving punishment in this hole near Badr.” (Ruhani Hikaayah)
