Download PDF: [S] Tribe accepts Islam

In those days, the tribe of Hamdaan was considered one of the largest tribes in Yemen. At first, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – sent Hadrat Sayyiduna Khalid bin Waleed – may Allah be pleased with him – to them to deliver the message of Islam. He stayed with them for six months but no one accepted Islam.

Later, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – sent Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – with a letter and informed him to send Hadrat Sayyiduna Khalid bin Waleed – may Allah be pleased with him – back to Madina Shareef.

When Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – arrived, he gathered the Hamdaan tribe and read out the letter of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. He also invited them to Islam. The entire tribe accepted Islam in one single day.

Hadrat Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him – then informed Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – through a letter of what had transpired. When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – received this message, in extreme joy and happiness, he fell into Sajdah and on a number of times he mentioned, “May there be peace on the tribe of Hamdaan”. (Bahiqi, Seerat Al Mustafa)

It is reported that when Nabi Moosa – peace be upon him – ordered his nation to fight, they said to him, “You and your Lord go, we will sit here. When the city if captured, then only will we enter.”

This was in complete contrast to what happened prior to the Battle of Badr. It is mentioned that prior to the battle, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – consulted with the blessed Ashaab about going into battle. Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him – gave his opinion which was a good opinion. The Muhaajireen also gave their opinion. However, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – continued to ask, “O Muslims! Give me your advice.” One of the main reasons for this was that he wanted to hear the opinion of the Ansaar who were the majority of Muslims.

At that moment, Hadrat Sayyiduna Sa’ad bin Mu’az – may Allah be pleased with him – or in another report, Hadrat Sayyiduna Miqdaad – may Allah be pleased with him – stood up and said, “Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – wises to inquire from us. I swear by that Divine Being in Whose Power is my life and Who has sent Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – with the truth, if you ask us to jump into the ocean, we will be prepared to jump into the ocean. If you ask us to jump of a mountain we will be ready to jump of the mountain. We are not like the nation of Nabi Moosa – peace be upon him – who said to him, ‘You are and Your Lord go and fight and we will sit here.’ We will be people who will fight on your right hand, your left hand side, in front of you and behind you.”

When Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – heard these words, he was extremely pleased and his blessed face clearly showed this immense joy. (Tafseer ibn Katheer).
