Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah bin ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that during the time of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – the walls of the blessed Masjid was made with clay and mud. On the roof, dates trunks and branches were placed. The pillars in the Masjid were also date trunk. No alteration was performed during the period of Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him. Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – may Allah be pleased with him – did make it is more spacious but the original structure remained as it was during the time of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.

During the time of Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Uthman Ghani – may Allah be pleased with him – it was changed a little and made very expansive. In other words, its walls were decorated with beautiful bricks and also lime was added. The pillars were also made of decorative stone. The roof or ceiling was made from teak wood.

Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Uthman Ghani – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that when he had completed the structure with decorative stone and lime, people began to comment. He then mentioned that he had heard a statement of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – which was, “Whoever builds a Masjid and his intention is strictly for the Divine Pleasure of Allah, Allah Almighty will build the same house for him in Jannah.” (Sahih Bukhari Shareef)
