Download PDF: [S] The Camel that Spoke
Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas – may Allah be pleased with them – narrates that once a Bedouin tied his camel outside the blessed Masjid and entered the blessed gathering. When he felt he had completed his task, he got up to leave. However, some of the people present mentioned, “O Prophet of Allah Almighty! The camel which is with this Bedouin is a camel which has been stolen.”
The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then looked at this Bedouin and asked him, “What do you have to say about this?”
This Bedouin then placed his finger on the ground as if he was writing something. Suddenly, from the outside, the camel began to speak.
This camel declared, “O Prophet of Allah Almighty! I swear by that Divine Being Who has sent you as the Basheer and Nazeer and with the message of truth. This person has not stolen me. In fact, someone else had stolen me and this person had paid (monies and had legally purchased me). Therefore, he is not a thief.”
The Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then looked at this Bedouin and asked him, “O Bedouin! I ask you in the Name of that Divine Being Who gave power to this camel to speak, when you were running your fingers on the ground (when you were questioned) what were you mumbling?”
The Bedouin replied, “O Prophet of Allah Almighty! I was making Du’a in the following words, ‘O Allah! You are not such a Lord Who we can take home with us and there is no one who is Your partner in the entire universe through whose help, You created anything. Without doubt, You are as You have described Your Divine Being and You are also more Lofty than what we have mentioned. O Allah! I ask you to send Divine Mercy upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad and please protect me from this calamity.’”
When the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – heard these words, he declared, “I swear by that Divine Being Who has sent me with the truth. I saw large numbers of Angels on the road who were recording your words and therefore, whoever is overtaken by great calamity, he should recite the Durood. He will be saved from that calamity”.
It is reported that on the Day of Qiyamah, the Muhaditheen will arise with their pens and Allah Almighty will inform Jibra’eel Ameen, “O Jibra’eel! Fulfil their every need because in the writings, they used to record Durood in abundance on the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and hold them by their hands and allow them to enter Jannah.” (Ar Rouad)
