Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Alaan – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:
Once there was a female Mureed of Hadrat Sayyiduna Sirri Saqti – may Allah be pleased with him – whose son used to attend a certain Madressah.
One day, his teacher asked him to go to his house and help with grinding some flour. The young boy then travelled to the house of his teacher but on the way, there was a river which he had to cross. As he tried to cross this river, he drowned because the river was very deep.
When his teacher heard about this, he was extremely worried and decided to approach Hadrat Sayyiduna Sirri Saqti – may Allah be pleased with him – and inform him about this tragedy. Hadrat Sayyiduna Sirri Saqti – may Allah be pleased with him – then informed him that he should accompany him to the mother of this boy so that they could break the news to her.
When Hadrat Sayyiduna Sirri Saqti – may Allah be pleased with him – reached the mother, he began to explain to her the merits of patience and that a person should always be satisfied with the Divine Decree of Allah Almighty. When she asked him the reason why he was giving her this special advice at this specific time, Hadrat Sayyiduna Sirri Saqti – may Allah be pleased with him – informed her that her son had drowned.
When she heard this sad news, she replied, “My Lord would have never allowed this to happen.” The great Saint continued to explain to her the merits of patience, but she asked them to accompany her to the river.
When they came to the river, the lady asked them where her son had drowned. They pointed out the spot to her. She then addressed this spot and called out to her son. Suddenly, they were shocked to hear the voice of the son calling out to his mother. She then entered the river and holding the hand of her son, both of them came out of the river.
When Hadrat Sayyiduna Sirri Saqti – may Allah be pleased with him – saw this amazing sight, he approached his spiritual master, Hadrat Sayyiduna Junaid Al Baghdadi – may Allah be pleased with him, to ask him about what happened. The great master replied, “The lady was unaware of what had happened to her son at the beginning. Hence, she had complete trust in Allah Almighty. She also mentioned the words that Allah Almighty could not have done this to her son and this proved that she had complete certainty in Allah Almighty and His Divine Mercy. This is the reason that her son was able to come out alive from this river.” (Uyunul Hikaayah)
