Hadrat Sayyiduna Amar bin Shu’aib Radi Allahu ‘Anhu narrates that once a person wounded a person with his spear and injured his foot. This injured person then entered the court of the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam and asked that he be given justice. However, the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam advised him, “Do not be hasty in seeking retribution until your injury becomes better.”
However, this person insisted that he be given justice. After seeing the insistence of this person, the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam allowed him to seek justice from the one who assaulted him. Having done the same thing to the one who assaulted him, the assaulter remained healthy after this, but the person complaining had become lame.
He again appeared in front of the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam and said, “I have become lame, but nothing has happened to my friend.”
The Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam declared, “I did command you not to take retribution on your friend in such haste, but you did not listen therefore, Allah azza wajal has distanced a cure for you and has also distanced your right from you.”
After this incident, the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam then informed everyone, “As long as the injury of a person is not cured, he should not seek Qisas or justice from his opponent.” (Musannaf Abdur Razak, 9/454; Daar-e-Qutni, 2/88; Musnad-e-Imam Ahmed, 2/217; Majma’us Zawaaid, 6/296)
