Download PDF: [S] Rewward for a small favour
Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Shafi – may Allah be pleased with him – was one day travelling through the market place on his horse. While he was on this horse, his keys fell on the ground. A person suddenly ran and retrieved these keys and handed it to the eminent Imam. Hadrat Sayyiduna Imam Shafi – may Allah be pleased with him – then looked at his servant and asked him how much he had in his possession. The servant informed him that he had ten Dinaars in his pocket. The great Imam then instructed that it be given to this person as a reward and after apologizing to this person who had picked his keys for him, he continued on his journey.
Generosity and kindness was one of the great attributes of the Awliyah as we see from this example. Bear in mind also, that many Awliyah and ‘Ulama in that period were also people who had large debts instead of wealth. Yet, they never hesitated in rewarding others even for the smallest favour.
