It is reported that after being defeated at Hunain, one group of the enemy decided to escape towards Taif. Some also ran towards Nakhlah. Some ran in the direction of Awtaas.
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then sent a group of Muslims under the command of Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Aamir Ash’ari – may Allah be pleased with him – to capture these people. In the battle, they came against a famous soldier among the enemy whose name was Dareed bin Sammah whose was quickly sent to the Fire of Hell by the Muslims.
In this group, the famous companion, Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Moosa Ash’ari – may Allah be pleased with him – was also present.
He narrates, “One of the disbelievers shot an arrow towards my uncle, Abu Aamir, and it lodged into his knee. I rushed towards him and asked him who had shot this arrow. He then pointed out to the person who had done this. I ran towards this person who wanted to escape. However, I call him out to fight instead of running. He came towards me and very soon, I had also killed him. I then ran towards my blessed uncle and informed him that I had killed his attacker. He said to me that I should remove that arrow from his knee and when I did this, water flowed out. In fact, this turned out to be a serious injury and a few moments later, he was near death.”
We urge you to study the following words which transpired. This will show you clearly the Du’a that a true Muslim should make when he is about to leave this world.
Abu Aamir then said to his nephew, “My beloved nephew! Please convey my Salaam to the beloved Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. Please also ask him to make Du’a for my forgiveness.” At that moment, he also nominated his nephew as the commander of the army. He then left this mundane world.
When Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Moosa Ash’ari – may Allah be pleased with him – came in front of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, he related the entire incident and also mentioned the final request of his uncle. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then asked for water and refreshed his wudu. He then raised his hands and said, “O Allah! Please forgive and pardon Ubaid bin Sulaim Abu Aamir”.
Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Moosa Ash’ari – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – raised his hands to such a degree that the whiteness of his blessed arm pits could be seen.
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – then said, “O Allah Almighty! On the Day of Judgement, also raise his status above that of many other creation.”
When Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Moosa Ash’ari – may Allah be pleased with him – heard these words, he was extremely pleased with the status of his blessed uncle which was been given to him by Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.
He also thought to himself that at this moment, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – is busy in making Du’a and is certainly present in the Divine Court of the Allah Almighty and his entire blessed being is displaying immense mercy and grace, why should he not take advantage of this special occasion. He then came nearer to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and said, “O Prophet of Allah! Please also make Du’a for me as well.”
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – accepted the request of this beloved companion of his and made Du’a, “O Allah! Please pardon the sins of Abdullah bin Qais, (Abu Moosa Ash’ari) and please entertain him on the Day of Judgement with Your Divine Mercy.” (Sahih Bukhari Shareef, Sahih Muslim Shareef)
