Download PDF: [S] Kulunji as a Cure (Islamic story)
Shaikh Muhiyyudeen ibn Arabi – may Allah be pleased with him – in the Futuhaat narrates the following incident.
He writes: There was a person among us who was suffering from leprosy and all the doctors had made it clear that he was incurable. Coincidently, there was also a famous and powerful Muhaddith in the area whose name Sa’ad As Sa’ud. When he saw this sick person, he informed him, “What do you not treat this disease of yours?”
However, the unfortunate person replied, “Hadrat! All the doctors have made it absolutely clear that I am incurable. This is the reason that I have lost all hope.”
When the famous Muhaddith heard these words, he said, “All of these doctors are liars. I have a firm belief that that the greatest doctor in this universe is the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – and pertaining to the miracle of Kulunji he has stated that except for death, it is a cure for all other illnesses. Leprosy is also a sickness and without, it can be cured through Kulungi.”
He then called for some Kulunji and after crushing it, he mixed it in some honey. This was then applied on the entire body of the sick person. He was allowed to place a few drops on his tongue and after a short while this person was ordered to have a bath. Suddenly, all the old dead skin fell off and new skin appeared. The same thing happened with his hair. Within a short period, the person was fully cured.
Hadrat Shaikh Muhiyyudeen ibn Arabi – may Allah be pleased with him – mentions that this proved the certainty that this Muhaddith had in the blessed words of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. In fact, when anyone complained about problems with their eyes, he used to advise them to crush this into powder and apply it on the eyes as a person would do with Surmah. All of these people were cured within a short period. (Tasfeer Ruhul Bayan, 3/319)
This also proves the benefit of having absolute certainty in the blessed words of the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. Sadly, there are some people who look at the Hadith Shareef or the advise of the Hadith Shareef and merely ignore it. Some begin to question whether it is genuine or not. All of these things certainly creates a doubt in the minds of people. Therefore, we should not begin to create a doubt about the blessed words which are found in the Hadith Shareef.
