Hadrat Sayyiduna Sirru bin Yahya – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:

Once a person travelled from Khurasaan to Basrah. He stayed in Basrah for a while he had gathered ten thousand Dirhams. When the time of Hajj arrived, this decided to travel for Hajj with his wife. However, he had an immediate problem and did not know where to keep this ten thousand Dirhams.

The people advised him that he should keep it with Abu Mohammed Habeeb Abu Mohammed Ajami Ajami – may Allah be pleased with him. He then approached Hadrat Sayyiduna Habeeb Ajami – may Allah be pleased with him – and said to him, “Hadrat, me and my wife intend to go for Hajj and we have also saved ten thousand Dirhams. Please keep this for us and we would appreciate if you could purchase a nice house for us in Basrah.” After saying, they gave the eminent Saint all the money.

They then departed for Hajj. When they had left, Hadrat Sayyiduna Habeeb Ajami – may Allah be pleased with him – then called his close friends and asked them, “If we purchase flour with all of this money and then distribute it among the poor and destitute, what do you think about this?”

However, his friends said to him, “Hadrat, this is something which was left with you in trust by that person and his intention was that you would purchase a house for him.”

Ajami – may Allah be pleased with him – replied, “My intention is to give away all of this in charity and through this, purchase a house for him in Jannah and if he is happy with this house then fine, or else I will return his money.”

He then purchased flour and made bread and distributed this among the poor and needy.

When this Khurasaani person returned from Hajj, he approached Ajami – may Allah be pleased with him – and asked him, “O Abu Mohammed! I did leave ten thousand Dirhams with you. Did you purchase my house or not. If not, perhaps you can return my money so that I can purchase a house myself.”

Hadrat Sayyiduna Habeeb Ajami – may Allah be pleased with him – then said to him, “My dear brother in faith, I have indeed purchased such a house which is extremely beautiful, it has rivers running underneath it and trees which are full of fruits.”

When the person heard this, he returned to his wife and said to her, “It seems like Hadrat Sayyiduna Habeeb Ajami – may Allah be pleased with him – has purchased a house in Jannah for us from Almighty Allah.”

When his wife heard this statement, she replied, “There is no problem in this. I have hope that Almighty Allah will certainly honour the pledge of Hadrat Sayyiduna Habeeb Ajami Ajami – may Allah be pleased with him. However, what do we know that perchance he might leave the world before us. Please return to him and ask him to place this in writing that he is standing guarantor for our house in Jannah.”

The husband went to Hadrat Sayyiduna Habeeb Ajami – may Allah be pleased with him – and said to him, “O Abu Mohammed! The house which you have purchased for us, please give it to us in writing that you the guarantor for this house in Jannah.”

When Ajami – may Allah be pleased with him – heard this, He recorded the following words on a note, “Allah in Whose Name Most Beneficent, Most Merciful. This is a guarantee from Abu Mohammed Habeeb that he had indeed purchased a house in Jannah for a certain Khurasaani person which is a mansion and there are rivers which flow underneath it and there are trees full of fruits there also. It will be the Divine Mercy of Almighty Allah if He is able to give a house like this with this description to this person so that the guarantee of Habeeb Ajami is upheld”.

The Khurasaani person then happily brought this note back to his wife. However, not even forty days went by when this person became ill. He informed his wife, “When my Ghusal has been completed and the Kafan is placed on me, this note should be placed in my Kafan.”

This final wish of the person was fulfilled. When they buried him, the people were surprised to see a note in the person’s grave. The note read, “This is a surety for that house which has been purchased for this person. Almighty Allah has certainly given the person the same type of house which was promised to him by Habeeb Ajami.”

The people then took this note and appeared in the blessed court of Hadrat Sayyiduna Habeeb Ajami Ajami – may Allah be pleased with him. He then held this note and began to weep and he said to them, “This is indeed a fulfilment of a promise which has been made by my Creator.” (Uyunul Hikaayah)
