Sayyiduna Abu Moosa Ash’ari Radi Allahu ‘Anhu narrates that the Holy Prophet Sallal Laahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam has declared:
“Allah azza wajal stretches out His Hands the entire night so that the person committing sin during the day can make Taubah and during the entire night He stretches out His Hand so that the person committing sin during the day can make Taubah. This Divine Mercy would continue until the time the sun does not rise from the West.” (Muslim Shareef)
Allah azza wajal is free and pure of human body
It is explained that by stretching out His Hands signifies that He accepts the Taubah. The reason is that when a human sees something he likes, then he stretches out his hands towards it. And when he sees something he does not like, he withdraws his hand. These are the type of words which the people of Arabia used in their normal speech.
However, it is considered impossible for Allah azza wajal to have hands and to outstretch and withdraw one’s hands is considered as a human trait and Allah azza wajal is free of this physical body. The word “Hand” is sometimes used to signify Divine Blessing. (Ikmaalul Mu’lim)
Allamah Mulla Ali Qari ‘Alaihir Rahmah explains that, “By Hands being outstretched signifies the acceptance of Taubah. Another opinion is that it signifies His Infinite Beneficence and Mercy which further signifies that He never turns away the person making Taubah.” (Mirqaatul Manaajih)
