It is mentioned that once there were a few children in the city of Bahrain that were playing hockey. The head priest of the Christian community was also sitting nearby. However, while these children were playing, the ball happened to hit the chest of this priest and he confiscated the ball.
When the children approached the priest and pleaded to him to give them the ball, he completely refused. One of the children again approached him to ask for the ball. He even asked in the following the words, “I ask you in the name of the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – to please return this ball to us.”
However, instead of returning the ball, the head priest started to insult and abuse the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him. When the children heard these insults, they began to beat the person with their sticks. In fact, they beat this person so severely that they actually killed him.
This case was then presented in the blessed court of Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – May Allah be pleased with him. In fact, it is mentioned that this was the Islamic Ruler who had been told about great victories and battles in which the Muslims were always successful and many expensive and priceless gifts and booties of war were already presented to him. It is reported that none of these things made Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – May Allah be pleased with him – so happy as when he heard about what the small children had done with the person who had openly insulted the Holy Prophet – May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him.
In fact, at that moment, Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – May Allah be pleased with him mentioned a famous statement which was, “Now Islam has gained respect.”
Hadrat Sayyiduna ‘Umar – May Allah be pleased with him then addressed the Christian delegation and stated, “If this is the type of insults which were addressed to their Prophet, should they have remained calm? Should they have not established their respect and dignity which they felt for their Master?”
Thereafter, the eminent leader of the Muslims made it clear that the children were justified in killing the priest and because of this crime, no blood money would be paid to the family of the priest because his blood has no value.
