Allah
Almighty states in the Holy Quran:
‘O believers! fear Allah and be with the
truthful.
(Al-Taubah 9,
Verse 119)
Hadeeth:
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with him –
reported: The Messenger of Allah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him
– said, “One of the earlier Prophets who was out on an expedition
proclaimed amongst his people that, no man should follow him who had married a
woman with whom he wished to cohabit but had not yet done so, or who had built
houses on which he had not yet put the roofs, or who had bought sheep or
pregnant she-camels and was expecting them to produce young. He then went on
the expedition and approached the town at the time of the ‘Asr prayer or little
before it. He then told the sun that
both it and he were under Allah’s command and prayed to Allah to hold it back
for them, so it was held back till Allah gave him victory. He collected the spoils and fire came to
devour these but did not. He said that
among the people there was a man who stole from the bounty. He told them that a man from every tribe must
swear allegiance to him, and when a man’s hand stuck to his, he said:
“There is thief among you and every individual of your tribe must swear
allegiance to me”. (In course of swearing of allegiance,) hands of two or
three persons stuck to his hand. He
said: “The thief is among you”. They brought him a head of gold like a cow’s
head and when he laid it down, the fire came and devoured the spoils. Spoils were not allowed to anyone before us,
then Allah allowed spoils to us as He saw our weakness and incapacity and
allowed them to us”.
(Bukhari, Muslim)
Commentary:
Allamah Badruddin ‘Aini – may Allah be pleased with him –
comments on this Hadeeth in his ‘Umdat al-Qari:as follows:
The Prophet who has been mentioned here was Sayyiduna
Yoosha’ ibn Noon – peace be upon him. Allah
Almighty had appointed him as a Prophet forty years after Sayyiduna Moosa –
peace be upon him – had passed away. He
proclaimed among Bani Israel that he is the Prophet of Allah and Allah Almighty
had commanded him to fight against the Jabbaris. Bani Israel believed him and pledge
allegiance on his hand. He then traveled
with Bani Israel to a town called Uraiha.
They also had a chest of Mithaaq.
They sieged the town for six months and were successful in demolishing
its boundary walls in the seventh month.
As they entered the town, they began to fight with the Jabbaris. It was a Friday. The fight lasted the whole day and was not
yet finished. It was almost sunset and
the next day would begin (Jihad on Saturdays was not permissible in their Shariah
[Mirqaat of Mulla Ali Qari Vol. 7, p. 660]).
Hence, Sayyiduna Yoosha’ – peace be upon him – feared
lest his nation be exhausted. He prayed
to Allah Almighty, “Oh Allah, turn the course of the sun.” He then said to the sun, “You are under
Allah’s Command and so am I.”
Allah Almighty then froze the movement of the sun for
them and they were victorious before the sunset.
(‘Umdat al-Qaari under Hadeeth No. 3124)
Great Miracle of RasoolAllah:
Allah Almighty had returned the sun for Sayyiduna
Sulaiman – peace be upon him – once but did the same for the Holy Prophet – may
Allah send peace and blessings upon him – once when he fell asleep with his
head in the lap of Sayyiduna Ali – may Allah be pleased with him. When he awoke, he noticed that the sun had
set, then returned, and prayed Salah. He
returned it for the second time for Sayyiduna ‘Ali – may Allah be pleased with
him – and he prayed his ‘Asr in its time.
(Tafseer Kabeer)
Disgrace of Betrayal on the
Day of Judgment:
The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings
upon him – has stated:
On the Day of Judgment, there will be a white flag
pointing out every person who betrayed.
(Kanzul ‘Ummal Hadeeth No. 7686)
A
Believer Does Not Betray:
The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings
upon him – has stated:
A believer is capable of doing a lot of things, but not
betrayal.
(Jame’ al-Ahadeeth Hadeeth No. 28585)
Lesson:
- Betrayal is a disgraceful trait in a man.
- Alhamdulillah, the true Muslims are endorsed by
RasoolAllah – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – as those who do not
betray. This is the Barakah of
Ummat-e-Muhammadiyah.
- Allah Almighty only allowed spoils for this Ummah
while it was not allowed for the former nations.
