So man must consider from what he has been created.

Created from a gushing fluid.

That is issued from between the backs and the breasts.

Indeed Allah is Able to return him.

Tafsir al-Kabeer

i.e. a child is born from the fluid that originates from the back of the man and the chest of the woman.

The Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – is reported to have said:  When the semen of the male overpowers, a male child is born and looks more like the father and his relatives and when the semen of the woman overpowers, the child looks more like her and her relatives.

i.e. Indeed the One who had the power to create the mankind to begin with, it is obvious that He will definitely have the power to revive him after the death.

Tafsir al-Kabeer (Mafateeh al-Ghaib) of Imam Fakhruddin Muhammad ibn Umar al-Raazi al-Shafe’i t D. 606 A.H.

Sayyiduna Hasan – may Allah be pleased with him – said:  i.e. the fluid that originates from the backs and the chests of men and women.  Moreover, we also know the semen is extracted from all the body-parts collectively.  It is for this reason that a male child often looks more identical to his father.  This is the wisdom behind making the Ghusl of the entire body when the semen is discharged.

Also, the one who indulges often in sexual intercourses inflicts back and pain in one’s spine which can only occur due to one losing the nutrients which had been retained in the fluids.

Tafsir al-Jalalain

So let man consider, by way of reflection, from what he was created, from that essence.

He was created from a gushing fluid, gushing forth from the man and the woman into the womb.

Issuing from between the loins, of the man, and the breast-bones, of the woman.

Assuredly He, exalted be He, is able to bring him back, to resurrect man after his death; and so when he reflects on his origins, he will realize that the One who was able to do this is also able to resurrect him.
