وَ رَاَیۡتَ النَّاسَ یَدْخُلُوۡنَ فِیۡ دِیۡنِ اللہِ اَفْوَاجًا ۙ﴿۲﴾
And you see people entering the religion of Allah in multitudes.
Tafsir al-Matureedi تفسیر الماتریدی
ذكر أهل التأويل أنه كان قبل ذلك يدخل واحدًا واحدًا، فلما كان فتح مكة، جعلوا يدخلون دينه أفواجا أفواجا، وقبيلة قبيلة.
The exegetists have mentioned that people used to enter Islam gradually one by one but during the conquest of Makkah Mukarramah, they entered Allah’s religion in multitudes and by tribes.

Tafsir al-Baghawi تفسیر البغوی
زُمَرًا وَأَرْسَالًا الْقَبِيلَةُ بِأَسْرِهَا، وَالْقَوْمُ بِأَجْمَعِهِمْ مِنْ غَيْرِ قِتَالٍ.
i.e. people entered Islam in groups and tribes without a single fight.
قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: لَمَّا فَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَكَّةَ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ قالت الْعَرَبُ بَعْضُهَا لِبَعْضٍ: إِذَا ظَفِرَ مُحَمَّدٌ بِأَهْلِ الْحَرَمِ -وَقَدْ كَانَ اللَّهُ أَجَارَهُمْ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْفِيلِ -فَلَيْسَ لَكُمْ بِهِ يَدَانِ، فَكَانُوا يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًا بَعْدَ أَنْ كَانُوا يَدْخُلُونَ وَاحِدًا وَاحِدًا، وَاثْنَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ.
Sayyiduna Hasan – may Allah be pleased with him – said: When Allah Almighty granted the Holy Prophet – may Allah send peace and blessings upon him – victory on Makkah Mukarramah, the Arabs said to one another, “When Muhammad (may Allah send peace and blessings upon him) conquers Makkah Mukarramah, although Allah Almighty had saved us from the people of elephant, but we will have no option except pledging to follow him.” After their discussion, they entered Islam in groups. People entered Islam one or two at a time prior to this.
وَقَالَ عِكْرِمَةُ وَمُقَاتِلٌ: أَرَادَ بِالنَّاسِ أَهْلَ الْيَمَنِ
Sayyiduna ‘Ikramah and Muqatil – may Allah send peace and blessings upon them – said: Allah Almighty referred to the people of Yemen by “people” in the verse.

Tafsir al-Qurtubi تفسیر القرطبی
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَرَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ أَيِ الْعَرَبَ وَغَيْرَهُمْ. يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْواجاً أَيْ جَمَاعَاتٍ: فَوْجًا بَعْدِ فَوْجٍ.
i.e. the Arabs and others. They will enter the religion of Allah in multitudes i.e. in groups, one after the other.

Tafsir al-Baidawi تفسیر البیضاوی
وَرَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْواجاً جماعات كثيفة كأهل مكة والطائف واليمن وهوازن وسائر قبائل العرب
i.e. people will enter Islam in large groups; like the people of Makkah Mukarramah, Taa’if, Yemen and Hawazin and the rest of Arab tribes.

Tafsir al-Jalalain تفسیر الجلالین
{وَرَأَيْت النَّاس يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِين اللَّه} أَيْ الإسلام {أفواجا} جماعات بعد ما كَانَ يَدْخُل فِيهِ وَاحِد وَاحِد وَذَلِكَ بَعْد فَتْح مَكَّة جَاءَهُ الْعَرَب مِنْ أَقْطَار الْأَرْض طائعين
The religion of Allah i.e. Islam, in multitudes i.e. in large groups, for only one or two individuals used to enter Islam prior to this. This transition came about after the conquest of Makkah Mukarramah that the Arabs came to him from different regions in obedience.
