Before the Conquest of Mecca by the Muslims, Abu Sufyan who had not yet entered Islam, came to visit his daughter in Madina Shareef. His daughter was Ummul Mo’mineen, Sayyidah Umme Habeebah May Allah be pleased with her. When he entered her room, he wanted to sit on the blessed bed of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. However, when his daughter saw this, she immediately went forward and turned the bedding upside down. When Abu Sufyan saw this he said in anger, “What? Is this bedding so valuable?”

 

She replied, “This is the blessed bedding of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him and you are a Mushrik and a Mushrik is someone who is unclean and therefore, you are not fit to sit on this bedding.” (Usabah, 8/85)

 

Lesson

 

All Praise is due to Allah Almighty, this is the true love and dedication that was displayed for Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him by the blessed Ashaab. No matter how close the person was, nothing could be spared when it came to love and reverence for the blessed being of the Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him.

 

Imagine this blessed Mother of the Believers who did not even allow her own father to sit on this bedding! How would they even tolerate anyone who said anything against the blessed being of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him?

 

(There is no doubt that if there were Wahabis, Shias, Deobandis, etc. in the time of the blessed Ashaab, they would have been slaughtered without any thought.)

 

Yet, sadly, in the present time, people who call themselves Muslims think nothing of even sitting and eating with these hidden Kaafirs. What face would you be able to show in the blessed court of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him if you ever manage to present yourself there. That person who does not recite the Durood will not be blessed with seeing the blessed face of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon himon the Day of Judgement. If this is the case with Durood, what will be the state of those who openly and happily mix with the open and hidden enemies of the Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him?

 

In Surah Taubah, verse 23 and 24, the Qur’an declares:

یٰۤاَیُّہَا الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا لَاتَتَّخِذُوۡۤا اٰبَآءَکُمْ وَ اِخْوٰنَکُمْ اَوْلِیَآءَ اِنِ اسْتَحَبُّوا الْکُفْرَ عَلَی الۡاِیۡمٰنِ ؕ وَمَنۡ یَّتَوَلَّہُمۡ مِّنۡکُمْ فَاُولٰٓئِکَ ہُمُ الظّٰلِمُوۡنَ ﴿۲۳﴾

‘O Believers! take not your fathers and brothers for friends, if they prefer infidelity over faith. And who so of you will befriend them, then they are they who are unjust.
قُلْ اِنۡ کَانَ اٰبَآؤُکُمْ وَاَبْنَآؤُکُمْ وَ اِخْوٰنُکُمْ وَاَزْوٰجُکُمْ وَعَشِیۡرَتُکُمْ وَ اَمْوٰلُۨ اقْتَرَفْتُمُوۡہَا وَتِجٰرَۃٌ تَخْشَوْنَ کَسَادَہَا وَمَسٰکِنُ تَرْضَوْنَہَاۤ اَحَبَّ اِلَیۡکُمۡ مِّنَ اللہِ وَرَسُوۡلِہٖ وَجِہَادٍ فِیۡ سَبِیۡلِہٖ فَتَرَبَّصُوۡا حَتّٰی یَاۡتِیَ اللہُ بِاَمْرِہٖ ؕ وَاللہُ لَایَہۡدِی الْقَوْمَ الْفٰسِقِیۡنَ ﴿۲۴﴾٪

Say you ‘If your fathers, and your sons and your brothers and your wives and your clan and the wealth of your earning and the trade of which you fear loss and the houses of your choice, these things are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger and the struggling in His path, then wait till Allah brings His Command. And Allah guides not the disobedient.

 

If only the Muslims of the present age, especially our Muslim sisters, are able to fashion themselves in the style of these pious Muslims of the past, Islam and Muslims will certainly have a different impact in the world than what it is today.

 

We make Du’a that Allah Almighty grace the Muslim sisters with this same zeal in Imaan and same respect for Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him which was displayed by our Muslims elders of the past. Aameen.
