Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Sa’eed Radi Allahu ‘Anhu narrates that once a female mentioned to the Holy Prophet May Allah send peace and blessings upon him, “O Prophet of Allah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him! The men folk are able to take away your Ahadith. Please also give us one day from yourself so that we can also present ourselves and learn those things which Allah Almighty has taught you.”

 

The Holy Prophet May Allah send peace and blessings upon him then mentioned that they should nominate a certain day and a certain place to gather.

 

As per this agreement, the women assembled together and the Holy Prophet May Allah send peace and blessings upon him began to teach them those things which Allah Almighty had taught him.

 

The Holy Prophet May Allah send peace and blessings upon him also stated, “Whosoever among you has lost three children, they will become an obstacle for that person against the Fire of Hell. When they heard this, one of the females asked, “O Prophet of Allah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him! If two children have passed away?” The Holy Prophet May Allah send peace and blessings upon him replied, “Yes, even two, even two, even two.” (Bukhari Shareef)

 

Lesson

 

To spend one’s times seeking knowledge is indeed a very great blessing. Explaining the excellence of those who have knowledge, Allah Almighty declares in Surah Mijaadilah, verse 11:

یٰۤاَیُّہَا الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡۤا اِذَا قِیۡلَ لَکُمْ تَفَسَّحُوۡا فِی الْمَجٰلِسِ فَافْسَحُوۡا یَفْسَحِ اللہُ لَکُمْ ۚ وَ اِذَا قِیۡلَ انۡشُزُوۡا فَانۡشُزُوۡا یَرْفَعِ اللہُ الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا مِنۡکُمْ ۙ وَ الَّذِیۡنَ اُوۡتُوا الْعِلْمَ دَرَجٰتٍ ؕ وَ اللہُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوۡنَ خَبِیۡرٌ ﴿۱۱﴾

‘O believers! When it is said to you; make room in assemblies, then do make room; Allah will make room for you. And when it is said, ‘rise up, then rise up; Allah will raise, in degree, those of you who believe and those who are endowed with knowledge. And Allah is Aware of your doings.

 

There is also no doubt that when a person gains knowledge, he is also able to recognize many evils and transgressions. In this manner, it becomes easy for them to save and protect themselves against these evils. He is also able to perform proper worship attained through knowledge. Therefore, knowledge is something which is beneficial in both worlds. Only a person who is ignorant will refute something like knowledge.

 

Since these Muslim sisters always had the desire to learn and understand Islam better, hence they requested that a separate day be given to them. This request was obviously accepted in the blessed court of the Holy Prophet May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. We also come to realise from this that to gather the Muslim females on one occasion and to teach Islam and the laws pertaining to Islam is also a Sunnah of the blessed female Ashaab.

 

The Muslim sisters of the present day should also make a great effort to acquire Islamic knowledge. They should not be lethargic in this regard. They should not be miserly in spending their time in the acquisition of knowledge and also consider it a great source of blessing.
