Hadrat Sayyiduna Urwah bin Zubair May Allah be pleased with him narrates that (in his opinion) after Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him and Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Bakr May Allah be pleased with him, the most beloved person to Sayyidah Ayesha May Allah be pleased with her was her nephew, Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair May Allah be pleased with him. He was also someone who was always ready to be of assistance to the great lady. It was also the blessed habit of the Sayyidah Ayesha May Allah be pleased with her that whatever she received, she used to give this away in charity. She never used to hoard anything or save anything for her own self.

One day, this same nephew, Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair May Allah be pleased with him, expressed words that she should be stopped from doing this all the time. When she heard these words, she asked, “Does he wish to restrict my hands.” She swore that she will never speak to him again.

After this, Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Zubair May Allah be pleased with him used many eminent people among the Quraish to speak on his behalf and also seek forgiveness on his behalf, but the great lady was not prepared to listen to anyone.

One day, he was told by Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Aswad May Allah be pleased with him and Hadrat Sayyiduna Musawwar bin Makhramah May Allah be pleased with him that when they seek permission to meet her, he should also hide himself among them and enter.

This is what happened. They then began to send ten slaves to her and she freed all of them. This continued until nearly forty slaves were freed by the great lady. She also mentioned that if only when she had taken the oath also mentioned the action which should be associated with this oath, then she would have fulfilled this oath.  (Bukhari Shareef)

Explanation

Hadrat Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair May Allah be pleased with him was the blessed son of Sayyidah Asma binte Abu Bakr May Allah be pleased with her. They adopted this method that since the great lady was always in the habit of giving away things in charity, this was going to be the only manner in which her anger against him would be turned to happiness and joy.

In the Qur’an, in Surah Al Ahzab, verse 21, the Qur’an declares:

لَقَدْ کَانَ لَکُمْ فِیۡ رَسُوۡلِ اللہِ اُسْوَۃٌ حَسَنَۃٌ لِّمَنۡ کَانَ یَرْجُوۡا اللہَ وَالْیَوْمَ الْاٰخِرَ وَذَکَرَ اللہَ کَثِیۡرًا ﴿ؕ۲۱﴾

Undoubtedly, you have the best in the following of the Messenger, for him who hopes for Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much.

In this verse, Allah Almighty has described the blessed behaviour of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him has as the most excellent of behaviour. This is the reason that the pious Muslims of the past used to fashion their entire life and actions according the behaviour of te Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. If they felt that someone was not practising according to this, they displayed immense anger at this person.

One of the blessed habits of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah May Allah send peace and blessings upon him was that he never became angry with anyone for his own personal reason. However, when he saw that someone had not performed any religious task or that person was an obstacle to any religious activity, then only did he become angry with that person. This was strictly for the Divine Pleasure of Allah Almighty. This is also the reason that Sayyidah Ayesha May Allah be pleased with her became angry with her beloved nephew.

We should also learn a lesson that when we become angry, we should not do so for personal reasons or to satisfy our Nafs or for the sake of obeying the Satan, but it should be for the Divine Pleasure of Allah Almighty and His beloved Prophet May Allah send peace and blessings upon him.

Those Muslim sisters should also bear this important lesson in mind when they often become angry with someone simply because of their own personal reasons. They become angry when someone speaks badly to them, or when someone has not given them due respect, or when someone had stopped a certain marriage proposal, or when someone has not attended their function, or when someone has not invited them to a certain function, etc.

Yet, when someone in their own homes are continuously being disobedient to Allah Almighty and His beloved Prophet May Allah send peace and blessings upon him, or someone in their own family has become a religious obstacle, or someone in their own homes has uttered words which are unbecoming against Allah Almighty and His beloved Prophet May Allah send peace and blessings upon him, then this does not affect them in the least bit.

We should bear in mind that the most important duty of a Muslim is to obey Allah Almighty and His beloved Prophet May Allah send peace and blessings upon him. We have not been commanded to obey our Nafs or carnal desires and wishes.
