Uztad Hadith Imam Faraadi – may Allah be pleased with him – narrates:

Once a person approached me and he informed me that he had seen the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – in a dream and that the Holy Prophet – may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – instructed him that he should go to Imam Faraadi and inform him that there will be a young man who will come to him and who is tan in complexion. And that the great Imam must not turn him away. He will also come in search of learning the Ahadith.

As per this instruction, the young man that finally approached Imam Faraadi – may Allah be pleased with him – was Imam ibn Asaakir – may Allah be pleased with him. As a matter of fact, it is mentioned that when Imam ibn Asaakir – may Allah be pleased with him – used to attend the classes, Imam Faraadi – may Allah be pleased with him – used to pay special attention to this young man and as long as this student did not awake from his seat, Imam Faraadi – may Allah be pleased with him – himself never used to awake from his seat.

Such was the eminence of Imam ibn Asaakir – may Allah be pleased with him – that he attended the classes of over one thousand and three hundred Mashaa’ikh and became one of the greatest of  Muhaddith of his era. He has also written many books on this subject with many number of volumes.

One of this special qualities was that besides spending time in writing, teachings and learning, he also spent most of his time in Ibadah and the performance of Nawafil Salaah. He made sure that he attended the Congregational Salaah at his local Masjid. Every year he spend time in I’tikaaf on the eastern Minaarah of Masjidul Aqsa during the month of Ramadaan. He lived in Syria and passed away in 571 A.H. (Tadkiratul Huffaaz)
